About This Community

Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.

Home Instead - Caregiver Skills

Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.

Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.

Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.

Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

Even when Assisted Living or Board & Care places are shutdown or not accepting any new residents due to the coronavirus, you can ALWAYS count on Home Instead to provide quality caretakers for your loved ones. The Home Instead in Burbank has been a Godsend for my mother. The caretaker they have provided my mother has the patience of Job. Kind, helpful, on time and also keeps me informed of any problems and/or solutions. Also, confirms when a prescription at the pharmacy has been picked up. Couldn’t ask for any better.

The people of this agency are THE BEST!! They were caring and understanding when they first came to my Dad's home to explain their services. I have met each of the care-givers on their first day of service with my Dad, to introduce them to him, his home, what we would like their assistance with, and how he likes things done. Each and every care provider has been patient, kind and caring with my Dad, and he likes and enjoys them all, looking forward to the days they come. They have helped him with meals, laundry and gardening, 'walks' in the neighborhood on his scooter, and sometimes just provide quiet companionship and reminiscing. The office staff is Fantastic - they always answer the phone when I call, listen to what I have to say, and work with me to see that my Dad's needs are met. When they need to call me with any updates, they are thorough and professional, but with the perfect touch of concern. Many years ago, I worked for an agency that provided the same type of services, and if I were to do this sort of work again, this is exactly the type of agency I would want to work with. Our family feels very lucky to have found Home Instead Burbank, and to have them caring for our Dad when we cannot be. Thank You!!

When a loved one is in dire need of help, you are in a very vulnerable position. You pray that the Lord will direct you to the folks who will help you, and then you take a chance. When our Dad was coming home from the hospital, with what we thought was 3 days to live, we scrambled to find 24 hour care --- my Mom at 87 could not do everything, and we children had jobs, etc. to contend with. I interviewed 4 different home care companies, and decided to take our chance, prayerfully, on you folks at Home Instead. Dad lived 8 more weeks. The weeks were very trying on our family, as they would be on any family. Home Instead sent what we call “Angels” (and one’s name was actually Angel!) to care for Dad, and kept the family at peace. Their folks became family members to us. Dad has gone to heaven, but we hold memories in our hearts of all Home Instead did to make him comfortable for the time he had with them. We will be singing your praises of Home Instead, Burbank, to any and all who ask (and some who don’t!).

I used this agency to provide in-home care services for 95 yr. old father with advanced Alzheimers, so I could get a break from 24/7 caring. When I put in a request online, they called back within the hour and arranged for rep to meet me later that same day. Home Instead provided me with an indepth overview of their company and services, they listened to me--what I wanted and expected from a caregiver, and then arranged for the most wonderful caregiving companion for my dad. Wish I had found this agency and this caregiver 2 1/2 years sooner. Their caregivers receive on-going, in-house training. The caregiver I had just knew how to interact with my dad, and when I left the house, I could be worry-free knowing that my dad was in good hands and would be well taken care of.
