Home Instead is a non-medical provider of personal care, companionship, meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, errands, incidental transportation and even Alzheimer's and dementia care. Our CAREGivers encourage, assist, and stimulate our clients in a variety of activities that improve their quality of life and help them maintain their independence. All of these services allow a senior to stay HOME INSTEAD for a longer period of time.

Home Instead - Caregiver Skills

Safety training on home safety, avoiding injury and falls, preventing strain and pain, safety in the kitchen, cautious cleaning, safe driving, outdoor safety hazards, and disease protection and prevention.

Basic training on emergency situations including stroke, falls and fractures and sudden illness, communication tips including communicating to those with dementia or Alzheimer's, activities for seniors to engage in, mealtime preparations, housekeeping tips, signs of abuse, and tips on reducing caregiver stress.

Advanced training on understanding senior illnesses and conditions, depression in seniors, caregiver stress, in-home exercise for older adults, making mealtime fun, communication tips with the senior, their family, and the caregiver's franchise office.

Activity training including reminiscing activities, modifying activities, activities in facilities, adapting activities for those with impairments, different types of engaging activities for older adults such as gardening, mind builders, and crafts and hobbies, and getting a senior involved in the community in places like senior centers, worship services, volunteering and errands.

Home Instead has been a lifesaver as we try to allow my step-mom to stay at home and live independently with caregiver support. The staff communicate well with you and have had to staff quickly due to all of a sudden discharges from the hospital. They also support the caregiver which is very unique but very needed. I could not do this without them.

Home Instead Senior Care, in Auburn, Alabama, has been enormously helpful in caring for my 85-year-old mother. Their management listened carefully to Mother's preferences and needs, then matched her with two caregivers, who alternate days, Monday through Friday, for approximately 7 hours per day. These women provide transportation to Mother's hair, doctor, and dental appointments, as well as to social activities. They help her get ready, fix simple meals for her, run errands, and provide companionship at restaurants and movies. My brother lives in Maryland, and I live about 30 minutes from Mother, so Home Instead Senior Care is a godsend! Thanks to their compassion and attentiveness, my mother can remain living in her house, while still enjoying her independence. When Mother's doctor occasionally sends her to the hospital, her caregiver waits with her until I arrive. My mother attempts to hide problems like falls, or excessive amounts of sleeping, from me, so it's a huge relief when Home Instead Senior Care contacts me, to inform me of changes in her well-being. I would rate this team of professionals a "5", or top score, for their excellent, competent care!

We used Home Instead services for my mom for more than six years. The caregivers were well matched to my mom's needs which changed over the years. She has been provided personal care, light housekeeping, companionship, meal prep, and really anything else that she has needed during a Home Instead shift. She has formed true friendships with some of her caregivers. The office staff has always been flexible when we've needed to change schedules (e.g., during a hospital stay) and ready to help when we've needed to start services again. I would happily recommend Home Instead services for senior care. They made it possible for my mom to stay in her home much longer than she would have otherwise.

The staff has been successful in creating solutions for unexpected situations. The level of personal attention has kept my family member happy and avoided fearfulness and emotional apprehension. I am kept aware of changes before and during times of change. I am absent from this town, most of the year; they keep me advised of the conditions of my family member and check on her needs when there are weather conditions on concern. They consistently strive to exceed my requests of them in timely manner.
