Hoosier Village was a real ritzy place. The cottages were all taken up and had a waiting list, so we saw independent apartment living and it was not a high rise, but there were elevators and stairs and not all on one level. It had lots of acreages. It's huge, and it had a gated entrance. They had a very high-priced program where you invest a bunch of money in and then you have to pay your monthly dues, too. You got a lot and you're paying a lot. They had a lobby that looked out of this world. They pushed that it was nonprofit and that's why it's so much better than the others, but it wasn't for us because that was a lot of money and a lot of ritzy living that we didn't need. The rooms could turn into assisted living if needed. The food was out of this world. They had everything you would want, buses to go wherever, trips, and activities. They had different dining rooms, and they had a community garden. You had to take a little bus to go to the community garden, that's how big the grounds were. It was in touch with nature, which I liked, but it was too ritzy for us.

I have a close relative in the "assisted living"/healthcare unit. She is higher functioning but there is not alternative to stay in the apartments vs. all out nursing home. They EXTREMELY understaffed. She has called me multiple times asking me to help her. One example, she had diarrhea and didn't get the bathroom, she had to sit in the excrement for 2 hours before she got help. I've been there many times when I see the lights/buzzer on rooms and they are deaf to them, just slowly go about whatever they are already doing. Why don't you use your builidng funds to pay your staff a better salary and hire more people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nothing but great things to say, This team is caring and completely focused on the best interest of our loved ones. They will not compromise in doing the best thing for you. Its rare that people care about others to this extent.

We briefly considered this facility for my Mom, who has dementia, until we were told that residents of the Memory Care cannot use wheelchairs. They wanted to put her into a semi-private room in their "Health Center," which is merely a euphemism for nursing home. Multiple caregivers and other staff members at Hoosier Village told us that my Mom is too highly functioning for their Health Center. We also were looking for a place for my Dad to be cloase to Mom. The only apartments we saw for my Dad were tiny--smaller than any of the apartments in which I lived right out of school. We were working with the Marketing Director who treated us poorly, seemed only to care about selling my Dad one of their high-end and very costly independent living homes, and accused us of wasting his time once we told him we were going elsewhere. He even sent me an angry text message at 10:34 p.m. which only reinforced my belief that we made the right decision in not selecting this community.

Hoosier Village is excellent and we liked what we saw. It seemed like it was well-organized and well-run, and we think we're going to be happy there. The staff answered all our questions and took time to take us through the complex. They're very friendly and helpful, so it was just a positive experience. The food was good and good quality. They got a pool, activities, exercise classes, weights room, and a whole range of social activities, so it's pretty complete.

We were very impressed and pleased with Hoosier Village, but it's an older facility. The staff who showed us around was very inviting and outgoing, fairly new but tried to do her best. They had a big aquatic center and a library.

Beautiful campus with lots going on! Lovely buildings with incredibly caring staff. Many have been there a long time. The independent living homes are amazing. The grounds are well groomed. There are many opportunities to keep you busy. Bus trips, visiting entertainers, a great community building with pool, gym, massage therapy, crafts, ping-pong, billiards and so much more!! Full time chaplain on site! The Health Center is a warm caring place with two dining rooms and a beautiful activity room. I have visited the memory building and it is very nice much like a group home environment with specially trained staff!!

The food is horrible. Have not seen one resident to eat even a small portion of their meals. No wheelchairs allowed in the "memory care" building so to take a resident out for a walk, you have to bring your own. Staff/resident ratio seems to be very low.

This facility is woefully understaffed; heaven help your loved one if they can't "hold it" for an hour or two to wait on someone to show up after calling for help. The building itself is run-down and depressing; think eighties beige and brown with low ceilings. Probably one of the biggest issues for the residents (other than lack of attention) is that the food is almost inedible.

I had a warm feeling at Hoosier Village. It seemed like the residents were actively using the physical therapy and involved in using what was available. It’s a 300-acre campus, so they had a lot of grounds. There were condo-like attached homes, some with basements, which were really nice. The one I liked was a 1,500-square-foot condo. They had independent living and assisted living apartments in the main building. One thing that really impressed me was their physical therapy.

Hoosier Village had a brand new facility built in the last year. They had a lot of different apartment styles to choose from. They had a swimming pool built in the last couple of years. They had a workout facility and a lot of trainers.

New building was nice. Salesperson said they were almost full, but didn't see many residents out and about. Campus was spread out. Pricing was ok. Looked at cottages and apartments. As far as a future plan, they do not offer much in discounts for future care. I did like the pool, but it was far away from the main building.

The staff at Hoosier Village is excellent. We were looking at their homes and cottages, and we were very impressed. They offer a full range of activities: swimming, athletics, and a variety of social activities.

Hoosier Village built a Memory Care facility, Hickory Hall, about 1 1/2 years ago and touted it as "State-of-the-Art". While a beautiful facility, the care provided is less than "state-of-the-art". There are no registered nurses, the staff is not trained in dementia care, the ratio of care to resident inadequate and the food is sub-par. Their attention to the medical needs of the residents is deficient at best- they miss the basic of elderly health issues. BEWARE: "assisted living" standards, definitions and thresholds vary greatly between different care facilities. What may be acceptable "assisted living" in one place, may be considered "healthcare/skilled nursing" in another.

Hoosier Village is very nice community. My relative is in independent living but there's assisted living there as well. We chose this place because of the location, the reputation and the availability. Their rooms are very spacious. They have a big and beautiful dining room that serves very good food. They also have many activities for their residents. They have bingo and movie nights but they also have classes and guest speakers. They also provide outings. They have a pool and a gym. The staff is excellent. There's enough staff in the community.

Hoosier Village Retirement Center was an older community but they invested quite a bit in acreage, it was almost like a subdivision community. They had two very distinct subdivisions where they had really nice almost like duplex homes. They were actually giving us a tour where they were getting ready to build 16 more units and gave you the opportunity to buy in, so that was more of a buy-in as opposed to month-to-month. For an independent living, it was more like buying a brand new home. An independent living home has two bedrooms, a sunroom, two-car garage and a full kitchen. My mom is independent still, so the independent subdivision homes were perfect in terms of ability to live by yourself and still has a little bit of outdoor. They also had the traditional assisted living facility. They do have 8 or 9 different buildings. The only downside in this community was that if you wanted to go to the main dining hall, you got to get your car and drive. They actually had residents driving golf carts around the community.

I visited Hoosier Village and it looked nice. It was quite a big place and they had a lot of area. There were also options for the different housing needs. The staff was informative and did a good job when I went there.
