Very poor staffing, poor ratio to provide adequate care. Very poor food quality, cold and served in styrofoam boxes w/ cheap plastic utensils. The food I have seen should not be fed to aged patients. The staff is a hodgepodge of agency hires who float facility to facility and exhibit very poor skills and treat the patients very roughly. There are call lights that only light up at a nurse's station at the far end of the hall without any way to alert an aide of immediate need. The aides are supposed to carry beepers but hide them in the bathrooms, turn them off or just discard them so as not to be bothered. There are patients screaming day and night for help to no avail. A poorly run facility!

I am a RN that travels around the state providing assessments. The IMH is by far one of the best facilities! I have been to the various areas of the campus from SNF, Dementia Care areas and Assisted Living. All are above average as far as attentive knowledgeable staff. When entering into any of the areas, they truly make it your home and they are your family! The rooms in SN area are very adequate, and private. By the time we enter the area of needing a nursing home, the size of the rooms and the way the curtains hang are of very little concern. The main focus that they take care of is you and your needs and they do an outstanding job of it!! In all the areas, I have seen the staff interact with the client and family with professional kindness and compassion. I rave about this community and the love they give to everyone!

I have been involved in helping to find a suitable nursing home for my elderly aunt's continued care, so I have visited quite a few in recent months. Upon visiting the Indiana Masonic Home, I knew I needed to look no further. First of all, the home is on the beautiful campus of Franklin College. Just driving into the campus and to the home is a breath of fresh air. When we walked into the facility, I was also greeted not by the smells I expect when entering a nursing home, but by the smell of vanilla candles. We were given a full tour of the facility, and I felt like we were everyone's priority (from the admissions manager to the Director of Admissions and Finance) the entire time we were there. Secondly, I couldn't believe how clean and inviting the entire facility was. Although the rooms were small, the residents were able to bring their own furniture and decorations to make them feel like home. Both in the residential wing and the healthcare wing, the rooms were made to feel very homey. Finally, I was thrilled with the programs that were available to the residents. We were told about outings that my aunt would be able to go own, as well as opportunities she would have for social events, worship, and even getting her hair and nails done. Furthermore, the nurses we all talked to knew every single person by name and situation. We met several residents who have been there nearly 20 years. After our tour was over, I knew my search for a good place for my aunt had ended. She has now been there for rehab for about 4 weeks. When she entered, she was not in very good shape. She has since gained weight and is doing much better. There is a chance she might be able to come home in a couple more months. She has started playing cards with several people in her wing, and she is being more social now than she has been in a long, long time. I know she will probably require permanent long-term care in the next year or so, and you can bet I will make sure she can return to the Indiana Masonic Home.

I have visited this facility on several occasions. I was fortunate enough to dine in the cafeteria on my last visit. I thought the service was good, but the food was not up to par. The chicken was not fully cooked and had a rubbery taste to it and the vegetables were cold. I did notice the cafeteria was clean. The office part of the building seemed better decorated and cleaner than the patient living areas. While I was in the patient area I noticed that the rooms were very small and not much larger than a walk-in-closet. I would personally hate to live in such tiny rooms. I also noticed the patient rooms were drab and depressing looking. There was no carpet in the rooms just old had flooring. The walls were all white and the curtains were very cheap and ill-fitting. I saw several patients in the hallways that were only half dressed. I noticed several women who looked like that hadn't had their hair brushed in a very long time and one man was in desperate need of a shave. I saw no medical staff around but I saw several housekeepers. I also got to see the chapel and was impressed with how large and pretty it was. The chapel seemed to have an air about it that made me think it was used very seldom.
