I moved my parents to this property when my mom could no longer be in an Assisted Living facility in town. Mom went to the nursing home while dad was able to move to a totally independent apartment on the campus. First time living apart after 62 years of marriage. Dad was able to visit mom every day, without having to "drive" to see her, until she passed away nine months later. After mom passed, dad liked the entire campus so much, he has decided to stay here. The variety of housing options, meal plans, service "options", campus amenities, etc. are the best selection I found in Yakima PLUS the most affordable. Apt 1 STYLE - (1 or 2 bedrooms) Just an apartment (Dad has a 2 bedroom) He cooks all his own meals and does all his own cleaning, laundry, etc. The second bedroom is great for when out of town guest come for a visit. - Dad has the OPTION to buy a monthly dinner package or just individual meals, when wanted. He COULD have regular housekeeping, as much or little as wanted. Every few months dad eats a dinner with some of his friends, so the individual meal options are great. Once a year I hire the on-site staff to come deep clean his apartment (kitchen, oven, frig, bathroom, blinds, carpets, etc.) while dad is on one of his two-week driving trips to visit family in other states. This is the only cleaning dad has the staff do. Apt 2 STYLE - (1 or 2 bedrooms) Independent apartment with full kitchen PLUS cleaning services AND dinner each day. The staff handle the daily and weekly cleaning needs in the apartment. The excellent on-site Cafe that, if wanted, people can buy a breakfast and/or lunch, if they do not want to cook in their apartment that day is a great option. - Dad often goes over to the cafe area and has a meal while visiting with friends that often gather there to visit. Apt 3 STYLE - (1 or 2 bedrooms) Assisted Living: Mini kitchen PLUS ALL cleaning & laundry services AND all 3 meals each day. The service packages for the "extra individual needed services" is very competitively priced. I know a couple people who live here, and they tell me regularly that they enjoy it very much. They say the 3 meals a day are good and varied. Having had mom & dad in a different Assisted Living facility in Yakima for 5 years, I wish I would have brought them here. Apt 4 STYLE - (private or double rooms) Nursing Home. They handle and do EVERYTHING! Cleaning, Meals, etc. Mom's care during her final nine months was so tender and personal. They treated her like a queen. I never once was concerned for how she was treated. The communication between the staff dad and I was outstanding. How they also helped dad, as mom declined, was ABOVE AND BEYOND what I could have ever hoped for. We have a LARGE family (90 in mom & dad's family tree) so we got a private room out of respect for roommates, not wanting to disturb them. We had LOTS of family/friends coming into town to visit every week. Dad would also spend most of the day with mom. Dad LOVES the Cafe, Gym, Auditorium that are all in one large building complex. Dad does men's water aerobics twice a week, is part of the choir and goes on activities. While dd does his own driving, the campus buss to shopping and doctors could become valuable down the road, if dad’s health declines. I really like the staff here. Apartment side and Nursing Home side. They are friendly and vary communicative. A few times dad has had to call in a maintenance request, the staff has come to his apartment within 2 hours, normally within 30 minutes. I have recommended to other friends in town, with aging parents, to strongly look at this campus as home care is no longer an option. One dear friend is currently on the waiting list for a unit.

Living Care is about six blocks from where we live now. They have maybe 350 apartments, so it is a pretty big place. The price is less than other communities. One of the differences is the only meal offered is dinner, not lunch or breakfast, which is fine, and it fits us well. They have two or three buildings and the newer one is very nice. A two-bedroom unit would be about 700 square feet. Some of them have two bathrooms and some have one. In addition to having activities that are quite similar to others, you have covered parking and a locked storage facility in the basement where you can store things that you don't want to keep in your apartment. It's a Christian community, which makes a difference.

Living Care had assisted, senior living, and a nursing home all on the same acreage. It was a big area. This provided only an evening meal, no breakfast or lunch, but they did have a small restaurant down below where you could purchase your meals if you wanted to, so that was the one big drawback for us. The apartments that we've seen were nice but didn't provide the food. The staff that we met were all very nice, well-trained, answered any and all questions, and didn't hide anything. The people there agreed to let people come and see their apartments and how they set up their furniture and such, that way it was a little better because you have an idea of furniture you could take. They had snacks and stuff out for people to have, but that was basically it.

We are on a waiting list at Living Care. Their apartments were not really big, but most of these places aren't. The staff was very good, and they were friendly. We had supper there, and the food was very good. They have a chaplain and a lot of Bible studies and various other activities like playing cards and get-togethers. I liked the personnel most; it was a very nice organization.
