Orchard Park is a good place. My sister's room is really clean. It looked like they had good food. They have all kinds of activities like music, exercises, and singing. They have all kinds of rooms, like a TV room, a salon, and an activity room.

At Orchard Park, there is a core group of nurses and caregivers who are dedicated to a good standard of care for the residents, They are genuinely caring individuals and develop great relationships with their residents. Many have been working at Orchard Park for several years. The building itself is pretty well-maintained in most cases. The current Administrator tries very hard to keep the operation efficient and satisfactory to the residents. There are interesting and entertaining social activities that attract many of the residents. There are several residents whose care needs may exceed the scope of practice of the staff, or may demand more attention than current staffing levels can adequately provide. But in those cases, usually additional care is provided by outside caregivers hired to provide companionship or mobility assistance at an extra cost. This is simply to augment, not replace the care that Orchard Park staff provides, as needed. There is a fairly high rate of turnover for caregivers and nurses but that is to be expected in these facilities. The current Director of Nursing is conscientious and caring. The food is, however, unsatisfactory. The company that owns this building is problematic in that they do not provide enough of an operating budget to ensure better nutrition and satisfying food. The kitchen supervisor does the best she can with limited resources, but should be given a higher budget to improve the menus and quality of food. This is a corporate deficiency, not a staff deficiency. Again, it is the dedication of the staff that makes this facility better than most in our area, especially for the price. The best advice to prospective residents is to be vigilant and vocal and continue to lobby for improved corporate policies and budgetary support. Families should be highly attentive for elders residing here or in any such facility to ensure proper care and safety of their loved ones. My father lived there for the past 2 1/2 years, and the overall quality of care improved under the current administrator.

My mother is at The Bellingham at Orchard, the dementia care facility connected to Orchard Park. The care has not lived up to the representations made when I visited the facility and met with the marketing director. The crux of the issue is that they are understaffed don't have good systems in place for housekeeping, laundry, or personal care of the residents. The staff is friendly and helpful if you point out a deficiency, but I've met with the executive director several times now to express my concerns and nothing had fundamentally changed. I've been so concerned that I have another professional caregiver going in twice a week to see to Mom's needs, and her friends have organized a rotating visitation schedule so that someone checks in on her almost every day. I'm in another state and can't be there routinely myself. Mom needs assistance eating but it's not being provided -- they simply remove her largely full plate of food at the end of meals. She's lost 10lbs in three months. I'll be moving her as soon as I find a good alternative.

Dad is at Orchard Park now and we’ve been very happy with the service that they have given. The staff seems to be caring. His room is well kept and they seemed to have several activities going and we've been happy with it.

I looked at the dementia care portion of Orchard Park and I thought it was horrible. It looked like a little dark prison. They wouldn't let their residents have TVs. If I should put my mother somewhere, she has to have her TV. I didn't like the staff, I didn't like the place, and I didn't like that way it is run. I wouldn't put my mother there.

I went and saw Orchard Park. The staff was fine. I liked the tour. However, they had a schedule of fees that we couldn't afford so we chose something which was less expensive.
