We toured Our Lady of the Valley, and we really liked it. It was huge, and it was very clean. During COVID they had a bunch of upgrades built on, so they had a new movie theater room and they had a chapel. There were plenty of parking spots and there were a lot of activities. It seemed like the people there were happy. We met several people, they seemed very engaged. Just as we walked through, we saw a lot of people sitting with staff members and talking, and they were greeted. It's not like they're grumbling staff, and I think people actually seem happy working there. They have a huge covered porch in front with lots of comfortable seating, and the porch was full every time we came through. The gal that walked us around said that the porch was one of the popular places. People were sitting out there, talking, laughing, and enjoying the weather. The inside was very clean, and the dining hall was nice, there were round tables, a long table, and square tables. One of the things I liked was you didn't have to sit with the same people every time, and there was a room in the back if you wanted to have like a larger group. The staff probably use it for some of their meetings, but she said it was available if people wanted to have a larger group; they could go back there.
When we were there it was Manicure and Pedicure Day, and a whole group of women was all doing nails together. There was a salon there where people were getting their hair done. I looked at the list of activities and there were actually a few during the week. There were some things available every day, and they did movies a couple of days a week. They had fun things to do every week, like going somewhere on the bus, or a Trivia Day. They had a really good activity director there, she's doing a good job. My concern was that the room my mom would get into would be small, like a dorm room. She said it was fine because I can upgrade later. Over the next months, they are going to essentially renovate most of those single rooms to be larger rooms, and it's going to be a big undertaking, it's going to make the facility even better. Because at that point, it was kind of like the size of a smaller hotel room where you walk in and you have a bathroom on one side, a little kitchen area on the right, and then it opened up so you could have a bed, some chairs, and a little table. I think it's livable. But the idea is you don't live in your room, you go out and you hang out and do stuff with everybody.

I visited Our Lady of the Valley. The staff was very cordial, showed us around, and told us what they had to offer. They had different kinds of nice apartments, like singles, some with kitchen. I liked it overall.

Our Lady of the Valley was very interesting and great. The tour was marvelous, well and beyond the time needed for the staff to spend with me. The staff listened to my concerns over the location where my mom currently is and actually gave me some good advice.
I saw lovely rooms that have been recently remodeled. They also recently built and completed the rehab area that looked just wonderful. Aside from that, I was very impressed when they walked me through the dining room. They were preparing their evening meal and it looked appetizing. They also had a lovely salad bar, which I think my mom would love.

I think that Our Lady Of The Valley is an excellent and inspiring place for people who need help to stay. Recently one of my relatives stayed here for an extended period of time, after being diagnosed with a chronic disease which kept her from being able to care for herself. Our Lady Of The Valley is special because it is rooted in the faith of Christianity, and it is also sponsored and funded by the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, Virginia. The employees all seemed nice and also seemed to have a genuine focus on the health and well being of all of their residents. Further, Our Lady Of The Valley is one of the most beautiful assisted living facilities that I have ever visited. It is my hope that if I ever find myself living in one of these facilities, Our Lady Of The Valley may be the one that I choose.

The staff at the facility was always very friendly, even when my grandmother was being difficult. They were helpful and it was clear more than one person was involved in the care of my grandmother. The facilities were of a nice size, with room for personal touches and amenities such as a television; however, each room I encountered had a strong odor. While they appeared very clean and organized, the stench was noticeable. The dining and entertainment there was very good; I got to try some of the drinks and food, which were both above my expectations. My grandmother often goes to see the music groups that come and perform for them. Residents can spend time outside, and even be brought to a relatives for a special occasion; for my family, that was thanksgiving at my aunts house. Overall, I would say the positives would be the friendly and competent staff, the size and decor of the rooms, and the entertainment provided. However, I was disenchanted by the rather mysterious smell of the rooms.

Our Lady of the Valley is a well-maintained, clean assisted living facility. The staff and especially the director there are approachable and willing to help. My family member has been treated very well and is comfortable there. One of the best aspects of this facility is actually their dining area, the servers and the food. The residents are daily offered fresh fruits and vegetables and professional chef-inspired and prepared entrees. Recently, they have been served crab cakes and ribs. This is both a comfort and a joy to my family member to have a nice variety of dishes that are both tasty and healthful.
