My tour at Brookdale Tyler East was great. It was great there. A very nice home setting, very clean, and the staff was awesome. The residents seemed to be very happy, they were doing activities, they were making little pumpkin things for Thanksgiving and Halloween. They were very active there, and I met a lot of the staff. I mean, it was awesome. They just didn't have anything available at the time. It looked nice and clean and had a great atmosphere when I walked in.

Unhappy At this Brookdale

Slow or non existent services, bad unhealthy food, no snacks in evening. must have your own food to have enough, understaffed at night & on weekends, boring, repetitive activities. Avoid this facility.

I went to Brookdale Tyler East. It was an excellent visit. They had very nice people. I met with two other staff members for about an hour and they gave me room tours of the model units that they had and ran over the financials with me. They had two units available, one large and one small. We looked into the available units, they answered all my questions, and they were very, very good. I was very impressed by them. They would be a leading candidate if things worked out medically. We're going back to the hospital today to see if we're being discharged or not. We may have to ask for skilled nursing facility, but Brookdale does not offer that. We didn't think that was even a chance, but apparently maybe the other doctor wants it, so we'll see. I had a good time. I met with Kimberly, and I forgot the other one's name, but Kimberly was the one who gave the room tours. She was very knowledgeable and very helpful.

I toured Brookdale Tyler East. They're great. The lady that toured me was very nice, very helpful, and had a lot of information. The room was really nice, I liked it. It was very well kept.

I chose Brookdale Tyler East for my mother. They've been very nice, they're very nice people, and I have no problems with any of them. The rooms are clean, though it's a bit smaller than what she's used to. But they're sufficient, and the staff is very nice. She was under quarantine for two weeks, then I took her to the doctor so she went under quarantine again because she had been out. She said that the food is very good. She said everyone is nice, but I couldn't visit because they're on lockdown. They're more expensive than where she's at, but they have a higher level of care, that's why I took her there.

Brookdale Tyler East was nice, and the residents were very glad they were there. It's kind of old, but it's up-to-date. They had lots of activities there, which the people enjoyed. The staff member who showed us around was very open about everything. I was impressed with the place. The dining room was spacious and clean, and they were playing dominos while I was there. They also go shopping to Wal-Mart. All the people there were coming up to me, so we liked it.

I liked Brookdale Tyler East a lot, and it was very small. They only had 40 residents and everybody seemed to be very happy. They had lots of amenities. The staff was wonderful. The rooms were a little small. Their square footage in each unit was small. They had a library and an exercise room. The staff was very nice, very attentive, and came in and introduced themselves to me. They gave me the menu for the week, and it had a good variety of food.

We visited Brookdale Tyler East. It was away from us and away from our doctors. It was not a good location for us. The community was small and quiet. I was unimpressed because I had made an appointment with them, and even though they called me back and verified it by phone, when I arrived, the lady who was supposed to meet me seemed to be unaware we were even coming. That put up red flags in my head and turned me off. She was very nice, but that didn't seem very professional to me. First of all, it took forever for somebody to come and let us in. After that, I wasn't comfortable with it, so we didn't spend the time looking around carefully. I didn't see a whole lot of activities. They had a staff member sitting in the living area playing some kind of game with the residents, but other than that, I didn't see a lot of residents. They had a small library and a nice courtyard in the middle, but it didn't seem to be as equipped with a variety of activities or activity areas.

I liked the location of Brookdale, in proximity to where I worked. They had television, games, and puzzles. They had a courtyard, and an area for gardening. They serve 3 meals and snacks, and they had transportation for doctor's appointments. The staff was very nice, approachable, informative, and very caring. The rooms have a small kitchenette, a living area, and a bathroom. It was a very nice visit.

My mother has been in Brookdale since last June. She is comfortable there, they provide good food, and she eats 3 meals a day. They help her baths, give medicine the doctor prescribed, and clean her room. They seem pretty good about everything. They have activities and an activities director.

Everything was good at Brookdale Tyler East (Formerly Sterling House of Tyler). However, my mother didn't like it because there were too many patients that had memory problems. They had one-bedroom or efficiency and all kinds of activities. She was just there a week. The staff was very accommodating. It just needed to be known that they had so many memory-care patients. It's assisted living, but they had a lot of people that had Alzheimer's, and that did not suit her. Her mental capacity is good.

I was very impressed by Sterling House. I like that it was smaller and homier. If I have been picking for myself, I would have picked that one.

I visited Sterling House. That was the second choice. They were very friendly. The rooms were a little smaller but fine, not cramped. The staff was wonderful. The clientele needed more a little more care than what I thought my dad needed, so I wanted him some place that was more active. It’s kind of off by itself. It’s near a university, but there’s not really much around it establishment-wise.

I visited this facility for my grandfather because we had a close family friend that was currently working there. On a tour of the grounds was nice and the location was in a good part of town. My favorite feature were the 'apartment' rooms which I knew would make my grandfather feel like he was in an apartment/town home rather than a room in a nursing home. The rooms were separated but they had a game room and television room where he could go to interact and have some fun with the other patients. I knew I wanted to enroll him withthe Sterling House knowing they had nurses on staff 24hrs and they regularly check with the local doctor's offices after-hours so that they could help him if needed. The Sterling House was a great choice for us and we think it will be for others as well.

I have a friend who lived for over a year at Sterling House Assisted Living in Tyler, Texas. I visited this facility approximately 20 times over the course of 2009. The staff were mostly friendly and seemed caring. Moreover, they seemed competent and their heart appeared to be in the right place. The setting is country style with nothing fancy. It is clean and has good food. I shared a meal with my friend for lunch. They also have a beauty shop which is open one day a week. The Sterling House is a secure facility, meaning you must have code to get in and out. I believe it is a good facility if your loved one has memory impairment or some other condition that prohibits them from living at home independently. I would not recommend Sterling House if your loved one has heavy medical needs because assisted livings are not equipped to handle skilled nursing care. Overall, I would rate this facility a four out of five because of the cleanliness, competant staff, and relaxed atmosphere. The only reason I would not give it a five because it lacks a wide variety of outing activities that many assisted livings offer. There are many assisted living facilities to choose from in East Texas. I would suggest to at least take a tour of the Sterling House and get a feel for the atmosphere.
