My mother is in Blue Skies of Texas. She's been there for 22 years. She must have liked it because she stayed there for long. It's very nice there. It is a bit more expensive than where my mom-in-law is, but it also has more facilities. They have an indoor swimming pool. They're helpful, but they have a lot of people to look after, so I feel they're sometimes a little bit quicker with you. They had lots of activities, but with the virus, all of that has been shut down. Right now, she's in assisted living. We had to up our game about a year ago. The independent and the assisted living are all in the same building.

I have been a resident for 9 years; but in assisted living for only three months. I am well cared for and my needs are met. The staff is understanding and caring.

I wouldn't want to live in the cottages of Blue Skies because they're rundown, but if I live inside the building, I have to get rid of my dog. They offer taking you to the doctors. It seemed to be clean.

My aunt is at Blue Skies. The place is very nice, and I was impressed with the amount of military there; my uncle, who passed away, is retired military. The rooms are pretty spacious, so she will be able to get anything that she wants in there. It is very nice and small but most of these kinds of places are small. For her, it is better. The food is very good. The staff is very helpful and secured everything for her. We are very pleased and happy with it.

It I is older. It has been established for a number of years. I am familiar with the Village. I have friends over there. It's beyond my capability, as it is very pricey. Their charges for assisted living are in the range of $5,000 a month. It's an excellent facility. You have many privileges, and since they are military-connected, it's as if you never left the base. It's definitely a home for military people. I've always found the staff very accommodating. They have a referral list if the people in independent senior living want help in the apartment. They have lists of people you can call so that at a moment's notice, you can have any kind of service you want, which is something that most places don't do. I think Air Force Village I is one of the finest places.

My dad was here for rehab. My dad would push his little buzzer, and they were there in less than a minute. They were running in the room to see what was going on. It was just awesome. The food -- you went out there and you had a choice. They had a main meal and a menu that you looked at. You got a hold of the menu and you got to see what the item was up for the day. If you didn't want it, then you had another menu that you could choose from what they would make for you to eat. The care there was just wonderful. The physical therapy was wonderful. The staff was like a family because they knew every patient's name, they knew our names, we knew all of their names, and all the patients learned each other's names. It was just an awesome place to be that we are trying to get him back to. My dad never complained about anything he ate; he loved everything he ate there. It was clean, and you were taken care of there. They had it gated, so that nobody can just leave the premises, which is nice. It's gated and the landscaping is nice; it's just a wonderful place.

Blue Skies was beautiful, but it was extremely expensive -- $5,000 a month. How many people have $5,000 a month? Not very many people. It was very nice. It was like a hotel. They had everything there. They have bingo, movies, and a library, and I think they had a beauty salon. Everybody was very informative, nice, and friendly.

I've gone to it several times. The staff were all really nice and friendly. We've had meetings there and I've been invited a lot over so that they could talk to us about different things. The rooms are very small. You don't make your own meals. You end up going down to the restaurant on the first floor and eat all your meals. I know you have to dress up or to be in decent clothes to have supper at the big dining room. But you can go to a cafeteria, too. You can wander around do what you want, but I just have more freedom and more space in my home. I like it because it's closer to town. I wanted to get into the new units that they built because it had more room and storage, but I don't have near enough money.

I really liked the building. It is a highrise with 3 restaurants. The sky lounge on the 15th floor was for fancy dinners and Sunday brunch, it required formal attire. Then there was a restaurant on the first floor (like a TGIF or Chili's in style), and then another restaurant that was cafeteria style. There were nice work out amenities, a weekly newsletter was clipped to my dad's door with the weekly activities, if new people moved in, social events. I thought that the staff seemed a little burned out, maybe they are not paid enough to take care of all of these old people that can be a bit difficult at times. I think the pay should be higher in order to get better employees, but the rest of this facility was great. My dad bought 2 apartments, he knocked out the wall between the two and he has a larger, airer space. They are trying this new concept of combining 2 side by side apartments into one, and adding more modern amenities. I was really happy that this is where my dad moved to, it doesn't feel like an old folks home, it feels modern and hip, it has a lot of fun social activities, it offers them a reason to get dressed up and mingle. They all wore name tags whenever they were in the restaurant or when they leave their room - so it makes it easier for them to recognize each other. The restaurant had nice pastries that my dad could take up to his kitchenette. He likes a slice of cake at night. They also had a nice welcoming committee made up of the older, yet mentally there residents that could help my dad get involved with his new surroundings.
