ALZ Description

This is Memory Care reimagined. This is The Courtyard Memory Care at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. As an assisted living residence specializing in care for those with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss, The Courtyard provides a safe and nurturing environment where highly trained caregivers focus on what is meaningful to each resident. Priority one is getting to know the resident and their family. Understanding your loved one—appreciating their likes and dislikes and knowing how best to maintain their well-being and peace of mind—allows us to create experiences that will foster positive emotions throughout their day.

The cognitive changes brought on by memory loss can cause a great deal of anxiety or stress. Something quite familiar can suddenly feel unfamiliar. That is why our surroundings have been designed to feel just like home. Residents reside in private studio apartments. We encourage families to fill the space with the resident’s favorite possessions or pictures. Built in a circular fashion, The Courtyard minimizes opportunities for confusion and agitation, while enhancing a sense of stability and calm. Central to life here is our beautifully landscaped and enclosed courtyard with an herb and cutting garden. Most of the apartments feature either courtyard or waterfront views.

The safety and contentment of each resident is a full time commitment at The Courtyard. The team approach of our highly trained staff ensures 24-hour care is consistent and compassionate. To that end, our commitment to care does not stop with the resident. We hold a special place in our hearts for family members struggling to understand the intricacies of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory impairments.

I toured the assisted living and skilled nursing at Tockwotton on the Waterfront. They've got everything anybody could want. At $6000 a month just for the assisted living, they better be, and that's still not the final number. If you want them to do your laundry, it's above and beyond that. I'm more concerned about my brother and him starting to lose his memory at 78 years old and that place would move him from assisted living to memory care, but like all places, he has to be evaluated by the proper people. He's going to a hospital to be evaluated within a short period of time. They have libraries and theaters. I was a little disappointed in their eating arrangements. Their dining room is "restaurant-style" where you sit at individual tables and the food is brought to you. It's not a buffet, and the menu was posted at the door. It doesn't look like a regular fancy dining room that I would expect for the $6000 a month. It's a nice place. There's no doubt about it. The staff is friendly, the people are nice, and the place is clean. I've got nothing negative to say except my disappointment with the dining area. I just thought it would have been a regular dining area like I had seen at "fancier places." It was like individual tables for four. They almost looked like cod tables versus plush seating and stuff to that effect. Other than that, it was OK. They had two full rooms, a kitchen, a separate bedroom, and a full bath. The bath doesn't have a tub. It has a stand-up shower that's handicap-accessible. The place is only built-in 2013, so it's updated in decor just looking outside.

We were very impressed with Tockwotton on the Waterfront. All the people there were very professional and informative, the setting was awesome and the facility itself was just beautiful. The staff went over the activities and amenities like if my friend needed a ride they would be there. We were impressed with the amenities and physical look of the place; it was like luxury living. The ratio of caretakers to residents, and the availability of medical people, it was just all around I was impressed with.

Tockwotton on the Waterfront is a lovely community. I wish they would have been a little more personable, like they showed us where the cafe was and said we could go in and get coffee if we wanted. They showed us where the rooms were. It's a really nice place, and you can see how a person's day would unfold if they lived there. We didn't see a lot of the place because the senior that I was with wasn't able to walk around. Surprisingly they didn't offer a wheelchair so we could bring her to more areas; that would have been nice. So we were very limited in what we saw. We got to see one room, and it was near the laundry room and near the elevator, so she didn't have to go too far. It was like a studio room and it seemed quite nice. There's a good-sized bathroom, and it was nice and clean. It just wasn't ready for someone to move into, but it was a perfectly acceptable room. This place was actually what my aunt chose, and she would have loved to go there out of all the other places we saw. She was thrilled with Tockwotton. Unfortunately, she didn't have any money to live there for three years independently. The lady that showed us the rooms was lovely, so I would rate the staff a five. Nothing was offered to us in terms of food.
