Prior to COVID, we visited Normandie Ridge. I would say it was within the last 3 years.
The place was so nice. It was modern, there was plenty of staff, and they had lots of activities for everybody. You could kind of pick and choose what you wanted to do.
It had total care there so from being very mobile or if, God forbid, you were completely immobile at the end, there was a way for you to be cared for in their facility.
The staff was very friendly and very outgoing. Everything was clean, the apartments were modern, and the cottages and everything were very well equipped for someone who was elderly. There were push buttons within the facility.
Everybody, even the residents, was just so friendly and so nice. There was nothing for me personally, as a caretaker, that I did not like, but one thing that was disappointing to my dad was, and I will say my dad is in his 80s so take this with a grain of salt or whatever, but he was very disappointed that there was no gym there. He likes to work out and that's a huge thing for him. On the grounds, there wasn't anything like that for him so he would have to drive off the grounds and a little bit away to get to a gym that he likes. The gyms that were close by were not great for the elderly because they had stuff going up. They just weren't super friendly of all ages. He does have a gym here, where he's at currently, that's pretty friendly to all ages and my dad is working out every day to keep himself limber, and to help with his arthritis is extremely important to him. The food was good but that was the big sticking point with him, that there's no gym. There were 2 treadmills and there just wasn't much of anything else so I think that was disappointing for him. They said they could get him a ride to a gym but he just didn't feel he was going to be happy because of that.
You can be in their assisted living or you could be in independent living and there are ways to do that no matter where you are on the ground. If you're in the apartments, there is sort of like a nursing home wing so if you were worse off, you could be there. That was sort of part of the apartment complex. The apartments and the cottages that we saw, it was a mix of assisted and independent living.
There are lots of food options there so I can't see that you can't get what you'd want to eat every day. The facility has a good layout and everything is good. Like it even has good bathrooms for the elderly and all that.
