Care, Compassion & Dignity in the heart of York. The culture of all of our personal care communities offers confidence in the attentive care, loving compassion, valued dignity, and continued safety for everyone.
Independent Living
Our aim is to make our residents’ day-to-day lives a bit easier, which enables them to live on their own for as long as possible. Independent living is ideal for seniors who want to continue to participate in their own activities, participate in community life, and enjoy an active lifestyle without the concerns of homeownership, such as yard work or household repairs.
Personal Care
Assistance with activities of daily living. We help aging adults with activities of daily living, such as bathing, dressing, doing laundry, and taking medications. Our staff members, including at least one medical professional, are on call 24 hours a day.
The key difference between independent living and personal care is the level of assistance offered for daily living activities and health care.
Dining
Our executive chefs add love to every meal. All of our living options include three home-cooked meals per day.
Activities
We keep fun front and center. Every day we offer engaging activities including exercise, day outings, and games.
Housekeeping
With everything from tidying up and scrubbing to laundering personal items, we have your needs covered.

The tour I had at Autumn House East was great. The place was nice and very homey. They just didn't have any availability at the time, but everyone seemed very nice and helpful. The residents seemed happy. Everything was clean and very acceptable to me. It just met my standards.
The gentleman who took me around was very friendly. This is my first time being involved in tis stuff and he was very helpful and very understanding to the questions I asked. We went by a room where there were lots of residents playing cards and playing games. There was also an exercise class going on. So, it seemed like they had a lot of of stuff available.

Rooms are not cleaned even once a week. Meals are not served hot three times a day. Meals look and taste terrible, and appear to be getting worse. Sheets and towels are not changed once a week. Pushing a button for help gets you no help. You must be able to crawl to the door and scream for help. They have frequent staff turnover. Try to call anyone in management and you will need to leave a message or two. They may not even call you back even if you are a resident. This is the worst-managed place.

Autumn House East is a nice location, it's more in the suburbs. It's a very nice setup and a very laid back and quiet community. I saw one of the halls where they're playing bingo. The staff, Mike, showed me the building as far as where assisted living will be at and where independent living is located. I saw the cafeteria. They also deliver to your room so you can eat inside your room for breakfast, lunch and dinner, which is better. And he went in detail as far as the things that the home has to offer like shopping and doctors help and assistance. And then they finalized that by showing me the room. The room was very large, had a kitchen and it, had its own bathroom and everything was very nice. The staff is very good. It's very well kept and everything is clean, there are no issues at all. As soon as you walk in the door, you see people in the hall playing bingo. They had a patio in the front that was very popular, and they had a location in the back where you can sit along the sidewalk. The independent living room that he showed me was very well kept up, the rug was replaced with square rugs. And they explained why they did it, that if something gets messed up, they can easily pull that up and put a new one down. The walls were painted, the kitchen was cleaned, everything was well kept.

I toured Autumn House East Assisted Living. I wasn't bowled over with them, but they had grounds where you pull up in the back and you see this big brick building. It's very nice to have bird feeders, benches, and flowers, though; that was nice.
There's a little office when you first walk in, and everyone was so welcoming and pleasant. We even had an opportunity to talk to a couple of the residents, and they seemed happy there. The staff is very nice.
Initially, my daughter and I checked it out, and once we decided that it looked pretty nice, we took my sister and had lunch there. It was a very pleasant experience. The food was tasty and there was a little fruit salad. She and I got different things; she got fish, potatoes, and mixed vegetables with a little fruit bowl and some banana cake for dessert. I got manicotti, and it came with the same vegetables. I wasn't sure that potatoes really went with manicotti, but other than that, everything was pretty tasty.
As for being personable and friendly, everyone we met was super nice. The staff was top notch. The facility itself is kind of old, and the aisles were narrower. The feel is very warm and friendly throughout, but the facility is a little dated. It wasn't wild, but it wasn't awful. It was just kind of average. It's the most bang for the buck. You're getting pretty good care, it's pretty nice, and it's much less costly. (We're on a very tight budget.)
They encouraged us to come back, bring my sister, and have lunch; they wanted to meet her. They have a bus that takes them to Walmart. They've done other trips like going to the York Fair, and they said they are going to go to Longwood Gardens. It just offered more that way. They do your laundry for you, and they do your house cleaning. They just seemed more active, and people seemed happy as they were walking around.

Autumn House East is a convenient location for us. The director, Michael, was just really accommodating. He pretty much said that any hobbies or activities that my grandmother wants to do, he would try to make them happen. The guy that gave us the tour was really great. He pretty much did anything he could to make my grandmother feel comfortable. He also spoke to her, not to me, which I thought was really awesome.
They let us have lunch, and that was really nice. She really enjoyed the food. He told me that they have field trips going on weekly, as well as arts and crafts, bingo, and food themed days. They have a cat that lives there too. Even when we were there at 7 o'clock, people were still sitting in the common areas, hanging out and talking. The place was really nice and clean.

The staff that I met at Autumn House East were very professional. They answered all my questions, were willing to show me several different room layouts, and gave me the price ranges for each. I saw their game room, dining room, and the amenities they have. The facility was very clean and everybody was very friendly. The other residents were roaming around at will and it felt like it was a very nice atmosphere, not a typical nursing home. It's like a little community inside and I thought it would have been perfect for my step mom when the time comes.
There were a couple of dining rooms and they were very big, spacious, and very home-like. It wasn't like a cafeteria-looking type. They decorated it in a way that it felt homey. They introduced me to the activities director and they had a schedule of what's going on every day at different times, and some of the residents can come on their own. The ones that need help, said they would go to the room and bring the people out to go to the activity.

I didn't like Autumn House East. It's in the middle of the city, it's enclosed, and it's like you're in a penitentiary. They have the same amenities as the rest of them. Since it's located in the middle of the city, they don't have much room for outside activities or anything, and you're confined inside the area.

My grandmother has been living in this facility for the past year and she absolutely loves it here! The nurses and other employees are so nice and caring for the residents it’s amazing! All the employees always have smiles on their faces and are always so welcoming to all the new residents! The activities director is amazing! She has activities like wii bowling, which is my grandmas favorite, and other fun activities scheduled at specific times during the week. Not to mention, the rooms are so cozy! Each room really does feel like home and my grandma absolutely loves it. All the residents here are so nice and loving to one and other it’s also amazing!
