The knolls is actually two facilities- a larger retirement community with small, independent living condominiums and a single assisted living facility. I inhabit the former. The grounds are clean and well-kept, and the buildings are handsome and homey. The community looks just like a regular condo development, which I think is important because except for one limitation that's all I need. I don't want to feel like I have to live somewhere special. At the same time it's good to know people can help quickly if something goes wrong.
The Knolls actually offers a great many activities and classes. I sort of feel like these are for people who don't have hobbies, or friends, or a job (I'm only sixty-five so yes, I still work) But I attended a few to make my daughter happy. They seemed alright. What's really valuable in this regard is the sense of community- since most of the Knolls is run like a regular neighborhood, I've gotten to know quite a few of the people who live around me. I didn't think I'd be happy in a community of just older people, but I'll admit it's nice to be around folks who remember all the same bands and TV shows I do.
