My cousin moved into The Sentinel of Amsterdam before Christmas. He toured it with me and he thought it was great. He has a roommate, which he's not happy about. His roommate sleeps all the time, so he doesn't have a room he can go to to get out of everything. Instead, he sits in the lobby watching TV, but there's no remote for it. I thought the staff was very good. They gave him a shower. They're cutting his nails. He was able to get his hair done. He said the food came out cold and he said some of that is not palatable. They have a lot of activities for him to participate in. They had a New Year's Eve party. He said they had cheese and crackers. They had music. They had hats, and they had noisemakers. They had a movie the other night, but he complained because there was no popcorn. They have jigsaw puzzles. I noticed in the elevator when we went up to his room, they didn't have the bars to hold on to. And I noticed the buttons on the elevator couldn't be read because they were kind of blacked out. He's in a double room, but he got charged for a private room.

Everyone at The Sentinel of Amsterdam was very helpful and very friendly. They welcomed us in, and made us feel like part of a family, and that's what I'm looking for. Something to get mom out instead of sitting home by herself. They were very helpful and willing to help us do whatever is necessary for her to get in there and get settled in. I think the facility was very well laid out. Everything was fantastic. It's like having a small community right there. They have a library, a hairdresser, in-home physical therapy and occupational therapy, and a doctor that comes to visit. They have a separate smoking area and a cute little courtyard out there by their activities room. Everything looked spotless and amazing. It's very nice. They gave them options in the dining room. They can either sit with a group of friends or use the little section for private dining. Like if I were to come to have dinner with my mother, we could use that separate room with a smaller table and it could just be us if that's what we chose to do. It's very nice. One thing that was amazing about them was the administrators that showed us around the area, spoke to every resident that walked by them by their first name. So, everybody knows everybody and that meant a lot to me, too. It's not like they sit in their office and that's the end of that. They're out there and they talk to these guys. If they need help, they're there to help them. They make sure they know that and I'm very excited for mom to be there.

I have felt so much safer since moving in here. I have more accessible care here medically, and I have people who help me with scheduling appointments and transportation. I let them do the work. I also love not having to cook. The pizza, meatballs and sausage here are exceptional.

I have been here at The Sentinel for almost 2 years. I love my room, it is the perfect size. The food is great, and the staff always offer you a choice. I'm always greeted with kindness, and have made many new friends here. It is an honor to be here, and the staff are all so kind to us. They have a wonderful Activities program, and are always keeping us entertained with fun games, crafts, and beautiful parties. I love it here!

I have been here for 2 years this coming February, and I’m very satisfied with this facility. I have found that it is very neat and clean which other facilities are not. The staff is warm and friendly including administrators. It’s very unusual that administration greets you by name and asks how your doing. Here they do this everyday which makes me feel very welcomed . I would say the administration has payed attention to my needs and met them with satisfaction. I find a lot of the residents good company. There is a great variety of activities that the facility offers. We have great parties and have wonderful outside entertainment when we are able to. All around the activities are stimulating and all of them are fun. I’m very happy to call the Sentinel my home.

The Sentinel is a very nice place to live. There's lots to do, but I am still able to enjoy my privacy. Everyone is very helpful. Such an improvement from the last place I lived. Lots of activities and transportation to go out in the city. The people I have met here, have become like family to me because of how they treat me. That makes me feel good.

The rooms are an adequate size, but the room decor is very bland. I've only interacted with the receptionist and she is pleasant. The resident whom I visit tells me that there is very little flexibility in the menu for people with unusual dietary needs.

Nice facility, care and the food were average. Some staff are friendlier than others. Building doesn’t fit the area, very modern. Overall B rating.
