The Good Shepherd Fairview Home was my aunt's first choice because she had been to Good Shepherd before, after hospitalization, for a short term stay, and she loved it there. However, they had no openings for her this time. It was an excellent facility. The staff was wonderful. They were very enthusiastic, caring, and concerned about her. They were always encouraging her to do things, and getting involved in things. It really promoted her recovery. They had a book library, and they had a library that came around to the residents, and they had a regular library that you could go to, too. And my aunt is an avid reader, so that was good for her. She could have her cat there. That was a tremendous advantage, and that's one thing she loved about them. They had bingo and games, arts, cards, and putting together puzzles. I saw the food, I saw her eat very well, and she's a picky eater. The cost was really decent, it was less than a lot of other facilities.

Good Shepherd-Fairview Home looked very clean, very homey, and the atmosphere was nice. It felt more like a hotel than a hospital. I think they had some type of stage-based church services and they had music. It was a year ago that I visited. They're very friendly and helpful. They had a little cafe that they could go to, their own little bank, and a salon. It felt like a little community center.

Out the four nursing facilities that my mom has been in and out of, they are the worst in the regard for her and our family needs. I have a health issue that had prevemted me from visiting my mom for the last two months. I get a call from them saying they were treminating her residence at the facitlity. So while I was not able to get there and to fight for her they just transferred her out of the facility. During the transfer half her belongs as well as her lift chair have disappeared. I wouldn't send my worse enemy there.

My moms currently there in her own apartment and she loves it there. She gets to go on trips to hockey games ,movies, picnics, penny gambling (in house), and restaurants. She loves wii bowling--they have a league and participate in tournaments. I m very happy she arrived prior to declining( she's still sharp and able to have fun). ---Gina---

Good Shepherd Fairview Home was a nice place but would require a big deposit of $150,000 but 90% of it is refundable. The location is very nice and the facility is fairly new. They have cottages and apartments for independent living and assisted living. They have everything for recreational activities because it is fairly new.

The staff at Good Shepherd Fairview Home have been very helpful in securing a community for my mother. It’s in a city that is well known to us. We saw the one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, living room, bedroom, bathroom with safety features, walk-in shower, individual control of air conditioning, and heating. Everything is included, except telephone.

The people at Good Shepherd Fairview were very nice, and the rooms were very clean but very small. And that was the only thing that I didn't like. Fairview costs the most, but they were the only place that would allow you to stay if you ran out of money and applied for Medicaid.

So far, my mother-in-law seems happiest at Good Shepherd. She likes the food better there, and the people are nice. I think that it is going to work out OK for her. The one thing also that we like -- that I liked a lot in the beginning -- is that the dining rooms are smaller and more personalized. There aren't so many people in each one, so it just doesn't seem to be overwhelming. It was a little cozier. They are also very accommodating to the family; they are very good to us too. She likes the food the best so far, and that means a lot for the old people.

The grounds as well as the interior are very well maintained, it feels more like a hotel than assisted living. The "apartment-style" suites are good sized and easy to get around. And from what I hear the food is pretty good and the staff is helpful. I wish I could live there!

The facility is beautiful and it's nice that there are a few different types of living facilities available here. At times it seems they are struggling with management; particularly in food service where they present that they are 5 star dining, and charge as if they are, but serve food that seems cheap and thrown together. The costs of living here are pretty high for the service that you actually receive.

I am a currently going to school as an LPN and was required to volunteer at an assisted living home in our area. I visited The Good Shepherd Fairview home in Binghamton, New York. The nursing staff was quick to introduce themselves and show me around. The residents seemed to be happy in their environment, playing games, socializing, and watching television. Although their facilities did not seem up to date, everything was well taken care of and clean. The rooms seem to have been spacious and comfortable. I did have the opportunity to eat lunch there, and I would say that is the only thing I would not give 5 stars for! As mentioned before, the nursing staff seems to care about their residents and take good care of them. Overall it seemed to be a nice play to live and be employed at. I would recommend The Good Shepherd Fairview to anyone who asks.
