Longview (Longview, an Ithacare Community) was a bit rigid in the way they handled my mother-in-law, and the staff was not as accommodating. My mother-in-law was there for about eight or nine years. The place wasn't as bright as my mother-in-law's new place. The food was fairly good. They need to be a little bit more flexible in the treatment of their residents. My mother-in-law wanted to be able to eat in her room and they absolutely would not let her. We finally got her to eat in the common room but they charged her for every meal just to carry the food from the dining room to the common room (which was ridiculous).

The nursing staff is rude and do not care about the residents . Most time they are sitting at the desk talking to each other while the call lights are going off . My mother has open areas to her buttuck that i am just finding out about , three weeks after the fact . Not happy with the service

Longview is very nice. The staff was trying to keep her somewhat independent. She has complained about peopl,e but I think it’s more that she had to move out of her own house. She is not too happy with having to be there, but we have to do it for her safety’s sake.
They have several activities but at this point in time my mother doesn’t want to participate in those activities. They have movies, play piano, and trips to certain places. It has been in our convenience as she has one lady that lived from the area and has a young son and they come to visit. We decided to try this within our certain radius for this lady so they could visit mom. The place is very well-kept. They are having some difficulties with their eating, but they should be getting that fixed before too long and with my mother, she loves the room.

I visited Longview with my aunt, and I am totally disgusted with nursing homes. She was dirty, she hadn't had a bath in probably two weeks, her fingernails were dirty, she had old nail polish on them from probably a month or two ago, and her fingernails underneath were all dirty. Her clothes were dirty and spotted; it was disgusting. She was in enhanced care there, and they didn't even care if she ate or not. They would go and get her, take her to the table in the dining room, bring her food that looked disgusting, set it down in front of her, and if she didn’t want to eat, they'd take her back to her room. They didn't even ask if she wanted a sandwich or a cup of soup -- nothing. Nothing else was even offered to her. It was such an awful place. They had very, very limited activities. They had a Kazoo band that met once a month on Sunday for about an hour, so they got a bunch of women who could play kazoos, and that was it. The rooms were dirty, there was stuff all over the floor under her chair, and when I asked to borrow their vacuum cleaner, they told me it was broken. I was there Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, and nobody ever went in there and vacuumed. I hope nobody in their right mind would ever send somebody up there.

We visited Longview. We like it, but Mom was not as into it. We kind of felt lost because all the walls and the carpeting were of the same color, and she couldn't quite figure out where she was. However, we liked the dining room. The rooms were very small, and they were like hospital rooms, but I thought it seemed like a good place for somebody who needed those services.

You can go online to see the varied living situations that Longview can provide. I only have experience with my mother (97) in assisted living. The Longview staff has been very king and attentive to my mother's needs. They made the move in process as painless as possible. We had the choice of using th furnishings supplied by the facility or bring our own. We did a mix and brought our own bed, dresser, TV and stand etc. And we used the existng wardrobe, lamps and bedside table. The rooms are similar to a hotel room but all have accessible bathrooms. Cable TV and phone are provided at a very reasonable price. Staff is present 24/7 and don't hesitate to phone if their are any issues. The meals are served in a very pleasant dininng room that is one floor down via elevator. The food is very good. There is daily menu. My mom loves the breakfast where you order anything you want. The facility is state licensed and the staff is very strict about the mandated rules, especially regardingthe handling of medications.
I wish the rooms were a little more apartment-like and that they were on a ground level floor. Overall I would recommend Longview for it's attentive staff, great food and reasonable costs.

The staff at Longview seemed to really take pride in their work. They worked with every resident individually and made sure to give them the care they needed. Also, they were not "pushy" and allowed the residents to live at their own pace. They also provided lots of activities for the residents, which was a very important factor in choosing a facility.

I have looked at Longview a couple times. First on a official tour and second was a surprise visit. The facility is beautiful and clean clean clean. This does not happen usually. lots of things to do, transportation available. They have an Enhanced assisted living section completed in summer 2011.
Would love to place mom here but need to get her insulin adjusted. Consulting with the doctor.
