I found that The Hearth on James was too city for me and I'm a country girl. It's nice and clean, but being in a wheelchair, I don't think there was enough room. I would have had to take out the tub and the shower thing and put in a new one, so I could roll in. They wouldn't do that, so I would do that to start with. They had stoves in the room and that made me nervous. If you have people that are beginning to forget things, there could be a fire in the building. The downstairs was nice, but you couldn't go out. They said in case of a fire, they would get us out, but you just couldn't normally go out of the first floor and that made me nervous. I interacted with two people and they were very nice, but I don't think I would go there. It's extra to get help. The staff was very nice. I got to meet the maintenance man and he was pleasant. They had what they called a parlor, and that was where you could go in and sit and there was a TV and that was nice. I met the nurses on the first floor. It looked like a good facility. Someone else would just probably love it. They had just put in a new carpet and it looked nice.

The Hearth on James was very nice. It was where my aunt picked to go to, but they wouldn't accept her. The staff during the tour was very nice and pleasant. The rooms were spacious and very clean. It was very welcoming. They had a courtyard, but I didn't go out because it was cold. I only talked to one person, and she was very helpful.

The Hearth on James was lovely. There were a lot of residents outside in their entranceway and on the porch area, and everybody just seemed so happy. It was like they were in their neighborhood. That to me is the most important thing. If you have to put your family member in a residence, you couldn't ask for anything more than for them to have a nice social life.
Their staff was very knowledgeable and very accommodating. They knew what they were doing. I just walked in out of the blue and they had someone come and talk to me right away. The place looked and smelled like a hotel. It was very clean and the individual apartments were very nice. They're not so big that they became unnecessary. It's easy for somebody with a walker or a wheelchair to maneuver. Everybody could sit and look out the window if they wanted to, because of the way the furniture and everything was arranged. It's very nice and if under other different circumstances, I'd be happy to have my brother there. It's just not the right place for him for now.

We went to The Hearth on James. It's very nice. The rooms are large and very clean from what we saw. The admissions person that we spoke with, Erin, was very, very good. She hooked up with Pace CNY. So they were very helpful. We were very pleased. The staff who toured us was very helpful, very pleasant, polite. She was very nice to talk to. The room had a stove and refrigerator. I remembered there's a little kitchenette area.

The Hearth on James was nice. The room size and the amenities were great. That was a really good community. The day I was there, they had a little festival for the residents. There was food, a clown, and all the rest. The lady who gave me the tour was very polite. When you go into their facility, you have to check in with their security, then you go down into the apartments. Their apartments were large enough and I thought that would fit my mother. I liked that they have a little place to sit outside for the seniors, too. It had a lot of chairs and that's where they were having the festival.

I thought The Hearth on James assisted living was great. I was impressed with how clean and orderly it was. It just did not have the enhanced care that my dad needed. The staff who assisted me was great. Everything they had seemed like it would work if my dad was in that level of care, but he's not so we kind of crossed it off our list. The menu and the kitchen looked great. I liked the idea of the food and everything about it. I liked the things that the people living there could do. I also liked the cook.

I just visited The Hearth on James, and I was impressed immediately upon going into the entrance. In my mind, it's like walking into an upscale hotel. It's beautiful when you walk in. It's assisted living, and everything is clean and classy. The staff is super friendly. The residents I spoke with during my tour were very pleased with the care they got there. There are nursing staff and regular staff available 24/7. The meals and the menus look great.
The activities run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and they have a wide range of things that people can do from the morning on. They have news and coffee in the morning. They also have an exercise thing you can do in the morning. They have a walking club, they have a cooking club, and they play bingo. There's just so much to do. They have a live band sometimes in the afternoon. This place is just fabulous.
The apartments are super clean, and they're just really really nice places. I had no idea that this place existed, and I was really impressed. They also check in on the residents a little bit later in the morning. They check in with them to make sure they made it through the night and they're OK. At dinnertime, if they're not signed out for the day and they don't show up to dinner, then they call or go to the apartment to check on them to make sure that they are OK. So that's amazing. The people who live there say that everyone -- all the staff -- is delightful and pleasant. I believe them; they're not selling anything.
I looked at the menu of what they were serving and the things that were offered. If you don't like what's on the menu for dinner for the day, they have a menu full of stuff that's always available, like strip steak and halibut steak. There are several dinners you can choose from if you don't like the one that's offered. The menu looked great, and it had a lot of variety. For breakfast, they can basically order whatever they want. There are pancakes, eggs, and just everything you can imagine.
The facility has three levels to it, but there are elevators and stairs. I thought it was well laid out, and I was really impressed.

We've chosen The Hearth on James for my mother, my mother-in-law is also there, we've been dealing with them for the last five years, and these people are wonderful. I absolutely love the staff, they have been so helpful for me, I've been going through these the last four months with my mother, and they've come up with deals, extended deals for me, they've really, really worked very hard to get her in there, and she's finally going to be going. She's going to a one-bedroom apartment. My mother-in-law likes the food, but I haven't personally eaten there. It's extremely clean, it's extremely bright, and it's very, very nice. I think they're doing bingo and stuff like that, and the last time I was in there to actually view the room for my mother, they were having a Golden Globes party. It's not a huge residence, there are not many people there, it's a smaller residence, which I like. They have a walking club, they have enough activities going on that if you want to participate, you can.

The Hearth on James was very nice and the staff who accommodated me was very helpful. The dining area was beautiful, and I tried a piece of the asparagus which was good. Their rooms there were also very nice. They have games for the residents, a walking club, karaoke, and other activities in the parlor.

We found The Hearth on James to be a really great place for my parents. It's very friendly. The staff tries extremely hard to know the residents and their needs. They speak to them on a first name basis. They have done way more in our minds to try to make my folks comfortable and to try to be of help with their situation. The rooms are nice. They're not huge, but they're very adequate. They're very neat and freshly painted, and any maintenance that needed to be done was done. It was very nice and very neat to move into. Everything works and iis n great shape. My folks like the food. It's very good. For their situation, they get 3 meals a day.
Well, The Hearth on James is very open to the individual's situations, and they did a very good job of evaluating my folks and their needs and being totally upfront with us with cost and services. I would recommend them to anybody.

The Hearth on James was very nice, communal, and secure, and seemed to have a lot of social activities for the seniors. The apartment looked pretty nice. It didn't have a lot of outdoor space because it is in the city.

The Hearth on James was very nice, and it's new. It's relatively small with only 80 residents. The only reason that we did not choose it is because it is in an urban setting, and my sister was moving from a country setting. It did not have a lot of green space around it. You have to grow up in the city to be comfortable there.

The Hearth on James was very lovely as well, but it was more of assisted living. It was very clean and homey, and the staff was friendly.

I am a resident at The Hearth on James and celebrated my one year anniversary this week. Everyone is so nice and I have met many great people. I have learned a lot from those who are from the north side just like me. I appreciate all the help the staff gives me on a daily basis. They go out of their way to help me and I appreciate them all more than they'll ever know.

The Hearth on James seemed clean, and it was a pleasant atmosphere. The person who gave me the tour was very professional, very helpful, and even called and followed up with me, so I was very impressed. I visited a room with two of the residents that were there. They were neighbors and were just chatting and invited me in and showed me the rooms and were very welcoming. And they were like, "Oh we can't wait for your mom to come and meet her." The rooms were really nice, and their price was probably one of the better prices in the city.

The Hearth was nice. It was small, in a bad section of town. The people working in The Hearth were very nice, however, some of the residents were out in the front door smoking cigarettes; you can smell it in the entranceway, and that turned me off. The rooms were adequate, the activities were okay, and the dining area was fine.

My sister has recently joined The Hearth on James family. After visiting other Assisted Living Housing in the Syracuse area, I give the facility, staff, location, food and experience a "5 star" rating. Alescia, Director of Community Relations, guided our family through the process and paperwork during a stressful time. Sue, Nurse Manager, is well experienced with a nurturing attitude towards tenants...we love Nurse Sue.
It's very interesting when you transition from owning a house and the maintenance thereof, having nutritious meals and snacks provided daily, onsite physical therapy/occupational therapy, medical management, weekly housekeeping, transportation, daily activities and social programs...your life is very simple. This means, individuals can focus on themselves, their health and truly the things that make them happy in life. The heart warming staff and residents always greet our family as we arrive or in the hallways.
Anyone driving into the parking lot of Hearth on James will "feel" the happiness around as it is such a beautiful facility. My sister is thriving in her new environment making new friends and looking healthier than I have ever seen her. Thank you!

The overall place was really nice and the people were very caring. And the level of professionalism was there. In fact during the tour, a nurse aid who was on break came to us when it seemed no one was there to help us to tour the place. She said she’d be glad to help us see the rest of the facility. So, that really says something about how professional they were and how they would love to accommodate people. And we can see how they interact with their residents and co-employees. They have this home-like environment. It's a place where you have that feeling that they really love helping each other and care about each other.
