CAVEAT EMPTOR! I placed my mother at WNC Baptist Retirement Home's assisted living facility in July. I was told by the Marketing/Admissions director, i.e. sales rep, , and the Administrator that WNC BRH would adjust its price to accommodate my mother's fixed monthly income and that they "wouldn't touch" my mom's meager savings. When I received the first bill, it was for $300 per month more than what I had agreed to. . When the second invoice was for the same amount, I challenged this with the Administrator, who said, "She won't get the reduced price until she spends down her savings." That was NOT what BRH sold to me when discussing admissions; moreover, when I pressed the Administrator to show me in my mother's contract where his position was stated he replied, "I can't." That's because the contract doesn't support his post hoc argument. In short, WNC Baptist Retirement home lied to me, employing a "bait and switch" sales approach to secure my mother's admission. On top of this, WNC Baptist Retirement Home has bungled several doctor's appointments for my mother, the most recent one involving a follow up CT scan about which a staff member forgot to tell my mom. They say they provide transportation to doctor's offices; however, they have also dropped the ball in this area, which isn't that surprising, given that no one there has voice-mail and only a limited few have e-mail. I am in the process of selecting a new facility for my mother; moreover, I will even consider paying more, out of my own pocket, given the outright deception and lies WNC BRH used to snare my mother.

My husband has been in this facility for 20 days after falling and fracturing his neck. He is preparing to leave and has had the most professional care and therapy. We have come to love these wonderful folks and don’t believe you could find a better place for yourself or your loved one when you need serious care. It isn’t quite home but, in our case, it was the next best .wiedthing! Mary Wiedenhaupt

My husband and I looked for a place to move in and we visited Western North Carolina Baptist Home. It was a beautiful and nice place. The rooms were well-kept and everything was very clean. The staff were very nice to deal with. They had activities and friends could come and attend them.
