Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air was a very nice community. They had a lot of different areas there. I liked the little neighborhood concept that they had. They also had a lot of activities. The thing I didn't like was the way we were treated. We weren't treated badly, but I felt like the manager didn't think we were important enough to be considered before these other people came in, before they committed to finding out what we were thinking about the unit. That was the negative thing about it. I had an appointment and the manager did not make sure that she was available to meet with me and my sister, and that really turned me off. However, my interaction with them was good. They were all very open and positive.
They had a salon, a little coffee bar area, and a courtyard. The thing I liked about the place, there were 16 to 20 residents total in the assisted living part, and that kind of appealed to me because my sister is from a small town in Kansas, and I thought that might be better for her. They had an activity room plus they had a separate TV room, and then they had a common area where people could visit.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air was fantastic. I was really pleased with the administrator and the nurse that they have. It looked like they had a very well-run organization.
The room I saw was bright and welcoming. The only thing that they didn't include were the furnishings. You have to do it your own. The bathroom was very nice and very good for seniors with disability. It was very big and spacious. I really thought it was very nice. They provide cable TV for free. They also have a nice dining room.
They have an activities person, a meeting room for families, and a beautiful patio area for the residents to go out in the summertime. I even saw a couple of residents walking around outside and getting some exercise.
In the state of Maryland, there are three levels of care, but Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air does five. So for instance, level two could have a low level two and a high level two. I thought that was kind of creative. The cost was very high though. If you ran out of funds, they wouldn't accept you as a Medicaid resident. It is going to be limiting if you don't have enough funds for your loved one.

My mother was at Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air for less than two months. The staff was outstanding. They were very patient, very professional, and very caring. She was very difficult, but they were there and responded wonderfully. We couldn't say anything except the very, very best for Commonwealth and all the staff.
She had some help with going to the restroom, but she ate out in the common area. She took care of herself. She was independent. The associates came in and visited with her and might have helped her with a thing or two, but she could dress herself, she could use the restrooms, and she could get around with the walker.
The facility was excellent. They responded very well to our needs. When we came in, they got a room ready almost immediately. The room was very clean and very modern and they excellently prepared the bathroom as far as for a senior. The common areas were beautifully decorated and always very, very clean. The eating area was very nice and very comfortable. It was just excellent in every regard.
They had a flexible menu. They also had some basics that if you didn't like anything on the menu, you could request soup, sandwiches, and several other things that were available. They also had the facility that if late at night, you were hungry, you could ring and they could fix you a sandwich or soup. They were very, very good. They did a tremendous amount. There was always something going on. Value for money was excellent. It was less expensive than several that we looked at.

I went to look at Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air. They were great, very knowledgeable, and they knew all of the residents. You can tell that they genuinely cared about everybody, so I liked it there. They gave me a lot of information, and they were extremely helpful. The residents were smiling and seemed happy. The facility is very clean and has a nice atmosphere. It kind of goes around like a little cottage. It's a very peaceful setting. They go on trips, and they have a bus. They take the residents out for walks. They have activities that they do. The menu looked fantastic, and the food looked amazing.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air was nice. It's very clean, well-kept, and nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and it seemed like the residents were taken care of very well. It's a beautiful place. I liked it. It would have been nice to have my uncle there, but they just couldn't accept the level of care he has.

I will be moving my brother into Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air, and for one thing, it's not very large. I like the fact that it wasn't very big, and the other thing that won me over is I know the doctor that goes there. I used to work with that doctor at another hospital who is a doctor at that facility, so that's one of the big ones right there. I knew the doctor that would be taking care of my brother. There was a doctor at the hospital I worked years ago, and I love him. I think he's a great doctor, so when I heard he was a physician of that place, that was pretty much a done deal. It was a smaller place, and it was nice looking, but it was small. I like that they have a transportation van that they don't charge much to use. I didn't get to meet a whole lot of the staff because I just went with Colleen, but they seem to be very nice. I just walked by them a few times, and they seemed to be nice. I didn't have a lot of interaction with the staff. Colleen is the woman who runs the place, so she's the one that did the tour with me and set things up. I still have to see what I could bring with me, so I had to see the size of the room. It's not very big, but I would have liked to have it bigger. I liked the fact that they already have a small kitchenette in there, a little sink, and a refrigerator underneath the cabinet. The other big thing was they're allowing me to bring his cat with him because he's been taking the chemo to live for his cat that he rescued. They had activities going on and stuff, but I didn't pay attention to all that stuff. The place is clean, very maintained, and very good. There were no odors of older people living there.

Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air was very nice. The people I met were very nice and helpful. I saw all the rooms, and they were all very nice. That facility is very comforting. It reminds you more of living in a home or a house, as compared to where my mom is now. It's very nice, but it kind of reminds you more of being on vacation in a hotel. So I like that; it was like it had all the comforts of home there. They had dining areas, and they had living rooms outside each group of rooms. So there was a group of four bedroom apartments, and outside of each group they would have a nice little living-room setup with a TV and a couch. They have a small courtyard, and when you look out the bedroom windows, they have bird feeders. It was nice compared to where she's at now.

My mother moved into Commonwealth Senior Living at Bel Air last month. Our experience is great, but she hates it. It's very nice, and the staff there is very nice. Her room is a little small for her to get around in, smaller than some of the other facilities, but it's manageable. That's probably the only negative about it. It's very odd-shaped, like a crooked L from the bird's eye view. She picked the room because it overlooked a courtyard, and she's happy with it. It's close to where she lived, so she got to keep all of her doctors and she doesn't have to switch. It's easy to get to. It's more like a housing residential neighborhood, which I like a lot better. The activities are limited, but they play bingo and cards.

It was wonderful. The people looked happy, there’s plenty to do, and the apartment itself was wonderful and a good size. The dining room was nice, had plenty of room, and was nicely decorated.
