The tour I had at The Residence at Great Woods was very thorough. We were shown all of the different amenities and the people were extremely friendly and very open in terms of what was available. We just got a very nice, warm feeling about the place. The two women we spoke with were very helpful and made the whole situation a lot easier.
They have a deluxe studio and a one-bedroom. They have a lot of activities during the day. There's bingo, puzzles, movies, and a van that will take them to local stores and to the doctors. They have a dining area that's very large, laundry, and a salon. You can be as independent as you want to be and then if you need assistance, they're there to help you.

We chose The Residence at Great Woods for my mother. Part of the reason was its location because it's close to my house. It is also very clean and very nice. They were just doing all the rooms over. The price is very comparable to the other ones around, and it is just a very beautiful place there. The staff is lovely, warm, and welcoming. I just had a good feeling when I walked in there.
My mother has been in there for three weeks now. Everyone has been so awesome, and I don't worry that she's there because there's people checking on her all the time. She is very still very independent, but there's always people checking on her. If she doesn't come down to lunch, they come up and say, 'Oh, you're going to lunch today.' I've just been very happy with how they're treating her, and they've given her independence. The staff members are very friendly and knowledgeable. Even to the visitors coming in, they are very friendly.
They have a calendar of activities every day with probably maybe four or five different things. There's music, movies, crafts, gardening, and field trips to go to the store and stuff. A new owner bought it, and they are re-doing everything. My mother has just moved into a newly renovated apartment.

The rooms at Wingate Residences at Norton were very nice. They had a library, activity room, a room for family celebrations, a PT/OT room, and a hair salon. The people there seemed really nice, and the place was well maintained. I saw a studio room, a single room, and a double room.

We visited/researched 5 assisted living communities when we realized our mother could no longer live alone in her own home. Wingate (then Epoch) of Norton was the overwhelming choice. It is small enough to be cozy and friendly, but large enough to provide lovely amenities. The dining rooms are nicer than most restaurants! The great room is nicely divided into areas, yet provides plenty of space for their many programs. Everything is spotlessly clean. I want their library for my own home! But rooms are just rooms, and great spaces don't make for great homes. People do. They are what make Wingate what it is: a welcoming and safe haven for people who need extra help in their lives but wish to maintain their independence as much as possible. The staff is totally dedicated to the residents. Going the extra mile is normal for them. All the staff seem to know all the residents by first name, and I have never detected the least degree of insincerity in their expressions of concern for "their elderly", as one staff member once said. Our mother settled in nicely after the normal couple of weeks adjustment period, and has often referred to Wingate as "my home." It is heart-breaking to all of us to have to move her from Wingate, but her memory needs are now greater than can be successfully addressed there. Wingate does not have a Memory Care program (although I understand that it has been discussed.) It will not be easy to leave Wingate...the staff is a very caring family. That is an often-used (and seldom meant!) cliche, but in this case, it is the truth. If you are looking for warmth and safety and genuine affection for your loved one in need of assisted living, you will look a long time before you find a place that comes near Wingate of Norton.

The assisted living unit at Wingate Residences at Norton was all brand new, and everything was shiny. There were flowers on the wall, flowers on the carpet, and flowers on the furniture. The quality of care here is exceptional. The girls and gentlemen that take care of us have been here for 20 years, 30 years, and 18 years. It makes all the difference in the world because they build a relationship with you. They’re not transferred thinking about what their next job is going to be. Their energy is on all levels. They never get panicky because this has been their job for so many years. There are 70 residents, and each one gets individual care. Unbelievable.
They dressed and bathed me. I live like a princess here. I have the smallest studio here. It’s very unique what I’ve done with my room, and I am more than pleased. I’d recommend the community to anybody. When new people come in to look at rooms, they call me. I’d go up and introduce myself and tell them that I wasn’t paid to do this but they’re coming into a place that has superior food, 3 meals a day, everyday. What’s greatest is the attention right from the director all the way down the line; they treat you like you’re the only one here. They focus on your problem, and they get you a solution.

Another one I liked quite a bit was Epoch in Norton. We were treated very nicely, and the atmosphere was warm and friendly. The residents' apartments that we saw were very nice.

Epoch of Norton was very nice. It would be some place that we would consider. The staff was very knowledgeable and nice too. The rooms were good and OK size. It had access to a bathroom that was within the unit. It was good.

We have had many different individuals, four should be commended for their extra effort. Nurse Ann worked three different days to get the correct subscription that Isabel could tolerate; she is finally getting better. Linda Bowman has been very helpful in starting our day. Now, for last night's emergency, at 10:30 last night, I had a serious nosebleed. I tried to stop it by myself, but it didn't work. With blood in the sink, on the floor, and over my trousers, I hit the button. Kim and Christa showed up. It took nearly half an hour to stop the bleeding and clean me up. Isabel and I are finally starting to get better. We thought that you should know of the fine help that we received.

I stopped by to visit this community and was greeted by the Executive Director who invited me in her office without hesitation. My grandmother is currently in a nursing facility and really doesn't need to be there. She took the time to listen to me and find a solution for my grandmother. Later she introduced me the sales person who spent time with me showed the beautiful, warm community introduced me to the nurse. This would be the perfect place for her but there some family members who aren't feeling that my grandmother should move. The staff are so wonderfully caring and wanted to help me do what was right for me, this has been such a difficult for me. They made feel that there are good caring people out there who want to do the right thing. If I lived in the area I would really push to have anyone you care consider this community.

Epoch was homey and smaller, so my mother liked that. It seemed rundown though and it wasn’t clean. It should be updated with new furniture. The food was OK. The people were very nice. The staff was good.

The rooms at EPOCH Assisted Living were pretty nice. It seemed like they had a lot more staff. They had a big dining hall, and they even had a breakfast place you could go to. They had a walking club, a sewing club, and exercise. The only thing they didn't have was a recreational room or anything like a pool table, which was what we were looking for. I like that it was only 2 stories high. It wasn't a real huge place. It was a lot of money, though. I would recommend it.

The problem with EPOCH is that it is very near the open theater in Mansfield and you get the noise from concerts. I also didn't feel that this facility was homey. Their rooms were neat and very up-to-date but very cold and institutional. The staff was very polite and very competent. I like the fact that they knew what they were about. They were extremely welcoming so much so that even the girl at the front desk greeted me. They already anticipated that walking around their facility would be difficult, therefore they had a wheelchair ready for me. However, I didn't feel the same warmth and care as I did with the other facility.

EPOCH Assisted Living seemed very nice. Its ambience seemed fine. Regarding staff, I didn't really meet them all that much but I thought they're very nice. I was only there for a half an hour, but I would give them a high rating.

The staff is exceptional from business office to the van driver. I never lost a night of sleep knowing my parents were being well taken care and truly loved. There is absolutely nothing to complain about the best assisted living in the area.

My mom has been in EPOCH for two months now. The facility is clean. Their dining area is lovely, it looks like a restaurant. The food is also excellent. The room that she is staying in is bright and cheery. The staff also seem friendly. They have a lot of activities for their residents like lectures, word-finder games and jeopardy.

My mom moved in to Epoch about four weeks ago. The staff is great, I can't say enough about the staff, they actually know mom's first name within a few days and they were attentive to her. They did a good job of welcoming her and all the people there are very kind and understanding. She's very happy with the food. The entertainment committee is very good and they keep her busy. She likes it so much at Epoch.

The building, staff and care are excellent at this facility. The building and decoration itself is very well designed and welcoming. Meals are served by wait staff in a restaurant-like setting. Activities are numerous and the care of the staff is excellent. We felt confident my aunt was being well cared for. The one drawback is the cost. My aunt's monthly base charge was $3500, plus any extra charges for help with a shower or help with medications. That is my major complaint not only about this facility, but about assisted living communities in general - the cost makes it prohibitive to most people. It only serves to narrow the options for most seniors just when they are in most need of help with their living situation.
