The Golda Meir House was an excellent assisted living facility for my grandmother. Although she moved away from her close friends, several states away, in order to live near her children and grandchildren in Massachusetts, she was able to maintain social activities for the last several years of her life. The Golda Meir House provided opportunities for her to meet her neighbors, and go on outings. She enjoyed walking in the garden and playing games with other residents. As my grandmother grew to need more assistance while she died of cancer, the Golda Meir House staff (notably Winnie) was so attentive and so loving. They communicated with us frequently about my grandmother's needs and wishes, and kept her comfortable with assistance in her every day activities, and with their kindness.

The facility was clean and quiet. The people who worked there were friendly enough. The apartment that my grandmother was in was a one bedroom apartment. It was a good size- the equivalent to the kind of small one bedroom you'd except to find in a college town. My grandmother wasn't able to drive and she often complained about the lack of transportation to and from the facility. The facility was on a bus route and I think that was too challenging for her to use. I felt like there should have been more outdoor living space- like gardens or patio area or walking paths for people with limited mobility to exercise or just enjoy the outdoors. When I visited she and I would stay in her apartment to talk over tea. It would have been nice if there was another area that we could have gone to to sit and talk.My grandmother often complained that she was lonely and bored there. I learned after her passing that she had made a lot of friends there- surprising because she never mentioned them., also surprising because she complained that there were too few ways for her to socialize.
