Located on the site of the former Brookline Hospital, Goddard House is owned and sponsored by Goddard House Retirement and Nursing Home - the first charitable home for elders in Massachusetts established in 1849 and the third oldest in the United States. This long-standing commitment to caring for elders will be strengthened and continued with Goddard House's Assisted Living Community.

We've designed our Assisted Living services to be as sensitive to people's pride as to their needs. I got to tour Goddard House Assisted Living. They had 70-80 assisted living units, and I particularly like that their dining room was divided into small sections. So you were eating in a room with about four tables with dividers with a small number of tables in each section. It gives people a sense of smallness. The rooms were nice, they were sort of standard size for the industry, they weren't large or anything like that, but they were nicely appointed. They're nicely fixed up between users, they took the opportunity to put in new carpeting or upgrade. The activity level and quality of activities were high, I'd give them high marks for their efforts to integrate new residents. They had a program with both the staff and people that stuck with people over some time and made an effort to create a community. The staff looked very professional and outgoing, they looked like a high-quality staff.

I went to visit Goddard House Assisted Living. It was a historic building that they renovated to make it work for this function. It was a beautiful building, I appreciated its architecture of it. I felt like it was also very clean and very functional for residents. I had a tour with the social worker. And she was extremely helpful in not only helping me understand the Goddard House experience but also helping me navigate the process of putting my mother into assisted living. My mother had a fall there, and they were right on top of getting the ambulance there. They're very supportive of her and very supportive of me. It's very, very clean. I appreciated the fact that they had a contactless check-in, so you just check in on an iPad.

Goddard House in Brookline is very nice, but it's too expensive for us. The tour was very good. Everybody we met was very informative. They asked us questions; we asked them questions. They have a garden outback, they have activities throughout the day, and they also have transportation to take you shopping and I think he told me three times a week. I was impressed that they were busy. They have a good amount of things planned for the residents. They have a studio and a one-bedroom.
