I visited Edgewood Castle Hills. It's assisted living and they have a nurse on staff. Everything was clean. The grounds were nice. It was a nice layout. However, no one was at the front desk. They didn't come out and greet you. They were busy. It was a more extensive type of place. The staff during the tour was friendly, though she didn't know everything. She referred a company that would do the paperwork, but we weren't comfortable with the people she recommended. We didn't know if they were on the up and up. The dining area was nice. They have a workout room. Edgewood is more money than the other place. They will help you qualify for Medicaid, although we weren't real sure about the company they referred.

My dad has been living in Edgewood Castle Hills for around two years now. In those two years, it has been all over the place. There have been five directors in under two years. I checked with the State Ombudsman, and there has not been a state review. I was told because it was a newly purchased facility by the Edgewood corporation and because of COVID, it had not been reviewed. I checked last week, and it still has not been reviewed by the State of Idaho, and with five directors, it hasn't been anything consistent. Right now, the cleanliness is pathetic. The meals are nothing to be excited about, and those things have been good. It's hard to evaluate it because there's no consistency there at all. There were some great caregivers, but (due to turnover) last Sunday, I hardly recognized any of the caregivers. The activities director was amazing, but she has recently left the facility. It's not the facility's fault, but the worst part was the seemingly endless quarantines. After dad moved there, it was somebody who was testing positive, and then somebody else would test positive. So for a long, long, long time, no family member could visit. We visited through the window. I didn't know if he was going to make it through all that COVID isolation, and that's probably typical of all places.

It seemed nice, the building was a little older, not quite as nice as some of the others, but I liked the neighborhood, because it was tucked away. I toured around, and the lady that I toured with was pretty nice, she talked to me, and we sat down. The staff was great, very nice, asked a bunch of questions, and seemed to really care to see if it was a right fit for us. It was pretty homey.

I didn't like it. The person I had set an appointment with wasn't there; however, a nurse took me around. He was great. The rooms were big, but I didn't like the place overall. It had more of a hospital feel and wasn't that bright and cheery.

I toured and during the short visit, I saw that it's a great place. The residents looked fine.

My uncle is in here. With our experience, it is very economical. They care and they are family-oriented. They work with him on things that mean a little bit more to him. They reach out in trying to do everything for Tom. He has real bad dementia and it has been an excellent place for him. Even the maintenance man goes in and talks to him and they call him master sergeant and checks on him. If he doesn’t go to eat, they make sure they come and get him to eat. We spend a lot of time there and we like what we see not only with Tom but with everybody. I can’t recommend it highly enough. We’re very happy with it and he’s very happy being there. We have him in a nice size studio and a real nice bathroom and shower. He just has to walk out his door, take a right turn and take a few steps down the hall and he is where he eats. It’s very nice, very clean, and very taken care of. They have bingo and they have their shopping days. They have their card-making days and they have little concerts and all sorts of things going on. He eats 3 huge meals a day and we have eaten with him a lot. They let us go and eat whenever we want and the food is really good. They get a choice of their meals; they have a menu of several items that you can get. You walk in and there’s a big, beautiful fish tank and a fireplace and then if you look to the right, it’s a real nice dining area. The halls are set up really nice because the people there almost go in a circle. Down the halls, there are little sitting areas and then off of some of those halls, there are little places out in the little courtyards. It’s very intimate and very nice but not overwhelming at all.

I moved my sister in last July 9th. The staff was very friendly and easy to work with. She was able to get a one-bedroom apartment -- they only have a few of those, so she was able to get a bigger room, which I appreciated. Most units are studio deluxe apartments. They have religious activities and outings every so often to visit some place. They have the usual Bingo as well as arts and crafts.

The staff, as far as the tour went, was excellent, but I wasn't a big fan. My mother wanted to be there because she's familiar with the neighborhood, and it's right across the street from her church. The rooms are adequate, and they appear to be clean. The food is institutional. Since Mom has been there, the staff have been helpful and friendly. But it probably wouldn't have been the facility that I would have selected.

It was a very nice, clean and fresh place. It was close to us. The people are very friendly and helpful. My husband got a shared room for his mom there because she's in Medicaid. My husband said the food is good and mom-in-law likes the food there too. There's a hair-cutting facility there and they take the residents to stores and restaurants. Overall it's very nice.
