Coventry Place offers a broad array of services, allowing its residents to “age in place.” Coventry Place residents do not pay for services that they do not need; most do not have to relocate to another facility to receive more extensive services when needed. All residents reside in large apartments (not motel-size rooms) while enjoying a maintenance free lifestyle, housekeeping, and an extensive dining program. Residents are able to participate in an organized activities program; local, scheduled transportation is also available. Our Coventry Place staff is available 24 hours a day to provide emergency services should they be needed. The best thing about Coventry Place is the sense of community that grows here. Our well-appointed dining room is a natural place for residents to meet over a delicious meal. Our wide-screen TV turns the Coventry Place lounge into a cinema and sports arena. Activity rooms are usually filled with residents play ing cards, reading or enjoying one of our fun-filled special event parties. Our graciously decorated lobby is a lovely place to greet visiting friends and family.
We offer an abundance of social activities on a weekly and monthly basis, to include chair exercise, musical entertainment, Bingo, a Bridge group, monthly Birthday Parties, Movies, Lunch and Fine Arts outings, and much much more. I have provided our January 2018 calendar here for you to review the current month of activities.
Having been in business 30 years, we're a stable business large enough to be be cost efficient but still small enough to feel like family. Most of our senior managers have been here over twenty years and is still owned by the original owners. Our Managing Director, Michael Cress, lives on the property as well in the same type of apartment as the rest of our residents.
In short, what sets Coventry Place apart?
Our 728 sq. ft. apartments are significantly larger than other typical Senior Living apartments with lots of closet and storage space
Both our Independent Living and Personal Care rates are significantly lower than our peers
Annual rent increases of $25 or $50 (1-2%) are minuscule compared to other Senior Living facilities, we won't price you out of your home.
Our one-time $500 Community Fee when moving in is a fraction of what competitors charge
We're a family business and this is our only community. This is our "home" unlike the large corporations that treat their residents as a number, not a person.

Coventry Place has independent living and assisted living as you needed it. The place was average, and the rooms were a decent size. The staff was not very professional, and they had a terrible driver who was very rude to the tenants. They had a few amenities, they take them out once a month to eat, there were not very many outings, and they had bingo. It's just a place to live. If you don't have people visiting, you're left out.

They promised two things that are non-existing: 1. That they could provide a Kosher diet and 2. I could open the windows. I have been eating poorly, because I cannot eat non-kosher meat and I cannot open the windows. Also, two nights ago I found water pouring into my apartment because of a broken cooper pipe. Four other apartments were also flooded. I am worried about mold on my floor and furniture.
I cannot find any body to talk with because all the men are interested in sports and all the women seem to have memory problems of one sort or another.
There is no exercise room or other ways to keep fit. The biggest game seems to be bingo. I do not like bingo.
Most of the staff is not friendly at all. The few who are are not very good. The food in general is very poor. All the bananas are green or overripe.

The staff was friendly at Coventry Place. The room size was wonderful; they are large enough to accommodate a handicap wheelchair. They are very spacious with large bathrooms and bedrooms. They have an outdoor area she can roll out to, and seats for grilling. It's easy to get to and there are a lot of stores around, so it's a good location. The entrance can accommodate only one car. We went to the cafeteria and the food looked OK and nutritious.

I only saw 1 room at Coventry Place. It was mostly put together and had a kitchenette. They had a bulletin board that had their list of activities on it. The people were very outgoing. It was clean and well-maintained. I saw the menu, and the food was excellent. The dining area was medium, but it was nice.

Coventry Place is a much older facility, and I'm not crazy with Decatur. They have a ton of activities, and they have lower fees.

Coventry was a very good place. I enjoyed it, and the tour went really well. The staff seemed to be dedicated, the layout was pleasant, and there was plenty of room. I would always take a look at the other residents and talk to them as I go through, and everybody seemed pleased with the place. It seemed like a nice place, and it seemed like the services they were going to provide were adequate; above adequate actually.
Good Choice

We were very nervous about the transition and wanted to make sure it would be a good fit before making the move. The staff were very accommodating. They allowed us to visit daily at different times for over a month. We were shown different apartments and interviewed several residents before making a decision. All of the residents gave glowing reviews. The main thing that influenced the decision was how staff interacts with the residents. There is a true concern and caring evident in the interactions. Also, the price was within our limited budget. Coventry is not a luxury facility, but the apartments are nice and the common areas are very pleasant.
My family member loves her apartment and enjoys the activities. They have been to the aquarium and were taken on a Christmas light tour over the holidays. The have regular outings to dinner at local restaurants and have a morning exercise class.
The location is very convenient to Dekalb medical too.

I’ve moved into Coventry Place. The staff is fine. The room is very nice. It is affordable for me. They have a beauty salon and an indoor pool, but they do not have a spa or an exercise room. However, those things are not important to me. The dining area is nice, but the food could be better. I would recommend this community to others.

Our mother had a very difficult two months at Coventry from November 2013-January 2014. While the activities and dining teams were quite nice and fellow residents friendly and active, the assisted living care was what we would consider substandard. There were incorrect meds administered on several occasions, poor communication across shifts, and lack of accountability from staff. Our many complaints eventually led to several staff and management changes and the Executive Director says they are now addressing these issues.
Hopefully this will lead to better conditions, but I would ask many questions, demand to see written care and communication protocols, and inquire about previous complaints and what is being done to address them. Coventry seemed like an affordable alternative compared to other assisted living facilities, but it cost our mom and our family much peace of mind. While it may provide an option for independent living, proceed with caution if you or a loved one need personal care.

The staff is very wonderful here at The Coventry Place. I have no complaints about them. Our activities are enough but I still have my car and go on short trips while I hope to get better. My apartment has a bedroom, a little living room, a kitchen and a storage area. The living room, dining room and kitchen are set up on 720 square feet. It's not a huge place but it's very nice.
The food is good. It's bland but it's very nutritious. We have chicken every Wednesday. You get meat and one or two vegetables. Sometimes they serve fruit or a salad, like today. The portions are never huge but it's a sufficient amount of food. The rent covers one meal. Lunch is the main meal but you can pay extra and get another meal.

Coventry Place is a nice community located in an area where there are a lot of nursing homes, retirement communities and assisted living places. However, in my opinion Conventry is probably one of the more warmer and nice hearted places in the area. Most of the residents seem to be able to get around without a lot of assistance and seem very satisfied with their living arrangements. I believe one issue with the facilities itself is space. Conventry seems more like a condensed hotel complex than most of the other assisted places I have visited in the past. The facilities are well kept and everything is very clean. I notice each time I visit someone doing janitorial work of some kind. Overall, the staff and residents seem very nice, pleasant and very eager to meet new faces. Last year we went caroling there and unlike when we usually visit and residents keep to their rooms, most residents came down to sing with us! This makes Coventry a very warm and caring place to visit. Everyone is so happy.
