I was accommodated very well by the staff at The Phoenix at Albany. The director was very pleasant and informative. However, it's a little bit too high pressure for my taste. Before I left that day, they were trying to get me to leave a deposit that would be refundable within a week. They wanted me to try and basically make a commitment, because they have one room available, and when they took me back to see that room I was quite disappointed. They felt that my father would be better suited in the memory care unit, and back there the rooms were smaller, and not really kinda up to date. The facility has been there for a while, so naturally you see wear and tear on it. Their pricing structure was basically the same as the other facility, and a little higher in some cases. When the staff followed up with me and asked me if I would be willing to negotiate if she could get the price down, would I be willing to make a commitment? That kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I explained to her the day that I had the meeting that I had a limited budget to work with, where I was at, and where I was going to be, and when you start getting towards the upper ends of things, then possibly the cost could higher than that based on my father's condition falling worse, and I told her that it just scares me. The facility also needs a little more modernization and updating. It's a more sterile type environment, and it tends to lean more towards the hospital style environment than a normal living environment with assistance from other people.

We moved mom in when it was Morningside and owned and operated by Phoebe Putney memorial hospital. The year was 2013. Things were good in the beginning but shortly after moms year anniversary things started going downhill. The management team started to dwindle one by one. Management that had been in place from the beginning left and in 2017 Phoebe sold to Phoenix Senior Living. The place has sadly changed and the staff is negligent and seems incompetent. In November the manager that had been there since we moved in left. She was the last of the original management team. Her replacement has zero experience and doesn’t seem to know anything about assisted living. I’ve overheard staff members talk and discuss their frustration and seems no one will listen. I’ve heard many negative things about this person but since it’s hearsay I won’t bother going into detail. The place seems cold and you can feel the tension in the air. Personally I’ve never cared for their Administrator. She’s always seemed fake and honestly like she doesn’t have a clue and when we’ve met she’s never followed through on any of our concerns. I recently found out that they are not a licensed Assisted Living . They hold a personal care home license however advertise they are Assisted Living. This causes issues when filing for long term care policy benefits. The building is dated and we’ve been told they are about to update and renovate. Honestly I feel it to be more beneficial to update their staff and management. A shiny new building isn’t gonna make a difference in the care of my mom and other residents. All we keep getting are false promises and they keep increasing their prices. They are more expensive than the other 2 places in Albany. The other 2 are licensed as an Assisted Living . So why they feel it necessary to charge more when whey do less confuses me and many others. One of the other 2 is brand new and based on what I’ve seen on Facebook there is no comparison. If I felt the move would be an easy transition for my mom I would have moved her months ago . Since change can be hard and devastating to someone in there 90’s I’ve prayed for positive changes with where she’s at. So far it keeps getting worse . Many are afraid to say anything in fear of retaliation on their loved one so that’s what prompted me to come here and right a review.

We got my mom at The Phoenix at Albany. We have adjustments to make, but they have been very good to us. My mom's room is clean, the right size, and very nice. They come in if she needs anything and they offer a lot. The staff is friendly and helpful. My mom seems to enjoy the food.

I have been living here for over two years now. Phoebe PUTNEY owned it when I came here. Now Phoenix owns it and the quality of food has gone south. I am a diabetic and not getting enough food to eat and I have to eat because of taking insulin. I am fed up with this and something needs to be addressed about this as my rent goes up $96 in March. I am ready to leave here but have no way or place for me to go now. Please look into this.

I moved my mom to Morningside 7 months ago. It has way exceeded my expectations! Moms apartment has a living room, bedroom, nice size bathroom, and huge walk in closet. It opens up to a courtyard. There are activities every day, bingo, exercise class, afternoon tea, etc. All those things have just been icing on the cake. The best part has been the staff and the other residents. Everyone is so cheerful, helpful, friendly. It's a family. And my mom is very happy there.

They showed me around and answered questions I had. They were helpful and friendly, but I didn't choose to go further to look at the rooms. Morningside of Albany was not that big a facility, but the location stood out for me.
