The Palace Weston FL assisted living is a very well-maintained and well-designed facility.
The apartment that my parents-in-law are in is a 2-bedroom with a kitchen, a den and living room area, and two bathrooms. It was quite opulent however, they had shiny marble floors in the kitchen area, which I found to be dangerous because of their slippiness. There were some design issues, both in the bathrooms and in their kitchen, that should have been corrected for elderly people. They didn't take that into account so although the opulence of it was clear, the safety of it was less clear for me from the perspective of whether it's safe for them to walk around on their own or not.
I think the staff, in general, are okay but I think there was a language barrier in the service area like the janitorial staff and the aides, one that they didn't expect to see in a facility of that cost.
They have buttons that you push if you have a problem. I don't know how quickly they are responding to those, I am not aware of how quickly they attend to a patient or a resident's needs on the emergency side. We had to call them to get my mother-in-law to the hospital when she was experiencing pain. You would have thought she could have done that internally so that's my impression right now on the responsiveness and the availability of assistance.
They had plenty of activities like live music coming in and happy hour. They have arts and crafts and all kinds of things. They seem to be pretty well set up to have people who can participate in those things have something to do. The availability of those kinds of things was pretty good.
I thought the food looked good. They have a nice kitchen menu, a nice dining facility, and they deliver some meals when we were moving my in-laws in. I tasted them and they were quite good. I would say, the kitchen is very well-staffed with professionals who know what they're doing.
There's a lack of inclusivity with their initial and base payment so that you have to pay for additional assistance out of pocket.
