My husband is staying at Assisted Living of Palm Beach Gardens. They've been excellent. The food is excellent. I can come and go pretty much any time I want to. It's secured. It's furnished. The staff takes very, very good care of the clients there. It's a small facility and they treat everybody like their family and I think it's wonderful. I haven't tasted the food, but I've seen what they served and I'd like them to cook at my house.
It's an older facility, so it makes a little difference, but everything's cleaned and kept up. His room's lovely. It depends on whether you're coming from a million-dollar home or whether you're coming from an average person's home. A millionaire probably wouldn't be excited, but I would give them a five-star.
They have an activity calendar. Most of the time when I happen to go, it's usually music and that's kind of what he's into at this point. I know they do other things, but I'm not always there. It's comparable to a lot of the other facilities, money-wise. It's all-inclusive. The only thing you have to provide is medicine and whatever medical coverage you need outside, but as far as anything there for personal care, hygiene, or anything like that, that's all included in the program. I didn't have to furnish it or anything.

How fortunate I was to find the caring people who are the caretakers at Assisted Living of Palm Beach Gardens. My mother, who had dementia, was so well taken care of for the fourteen years that she lived in assisted living. I believe that if not for Mike, Nilda, Mark and Tina my mother would not have lived as long as she did. Her medical needs were taken care of, she was loved, well treated and when her dementia left her being rude and crabby, they laughed at her ill humor and joked with her until she smiled. In the end Nilda and Tina were so helpful. They allowed me to call and using FaceTime, I was able to play music and sign to my mother through her last few weeks of life. Being able to be there, via technology (1500 miles separated us from her) and be singing to my mother as she passed from this world is a gift I can never repay. Caring, carful, consistent, honest and true to the needs of those who cannot care for themselves. Fourteen years of loving, respectful care is not something readily found. I have many, many examples of how the care that my mother received was exemplary. I am glad that I was able to find these folks who helped both my mother and myself so much.

Overall my visit to this facility was rather drab. It's not that the staff were not kind, or that the residents were being mistreated. I had the very awful feeling that the environment I was stepping in was that of a hospital. Charles was a family friend and my family really seemed to care for him a lot. We brought him 2 double cheeseburgers, as he was unable to leave the facility. He scarfed those cheese burgers like there was no tomorrow. I really felt bad for him, unable to leave and taste a different menu, or breathe in that clean fresh outside air. Over all the staff was very pleasant, its just the nature of these types of places. It felt like a hospital, and in my opinion a hospital is not a place to heal.
