My dad is going to a small residence like a small private house. This one is called Bayshore Guest Home, and it is in Nokomis. I'm looking at the small assisted living facility that is actually run out of people's homes. He is going to go there at the end of the month. I was just very happy with that. I just thought because he is bedbound, I needed him to be closer to where there was going to be people to attend to his need, but I didn't want him in a nursing home atmosphere. This is perfect because it is actually in a house that was converted to an ALF. All the bedrooms are around the main living area, so the people always can see and hear what is going on. That is what I wanted for him. Even though he can't leave his room, he wants to know something is going on there. He hasn't been there yet, so I don't know how the food tastes. They were preparing lunch when I was there, and it was all being cooked right there in the stove or they make everything from scratch. They just seem to be very caring, attentive, and accommodating. So much so that where he is at, I have to pay until the middle of April even though I wanted him out until the end of this month because I had to give them a 30 day notice. Bayshore said they would they take them for the first two weeks without charge, so I just thought that was very accommodating so that I wouldn't have to pay double to get him in there. That was really nice. They do have things going on there. It's not a big place, so they don't have people coming in to play music. It is a lot smaller, and it actually going to suit my dad's need really well because he is not interested in that stuff anymore. It just made me feel relaxed knowing it is the right place for my dad.

We choose Bayshore Guest Home for my mother because it is a home setting and not a big setting. It is an older home, but they keep it nice and clean. It doesn't smell, and it is very safe Everything is locked down. No one can go out or go in, unless you know the code. They only take up to 16 guests. So the ratio of help to patient is the best than anywhere we looked at. The staff is very good. They give individual attention to people. Right now, there are only 12 people living there, so there is enough staff to go around. It is not far from the hospital, and it is not far from the beach. It is right across the street from the inter-coastal waters. However, they don't have a lot of activities and programs, unlike the big facilities.
