Lakeland Manor was really nice when I walked in the front door. They took us downstairs and that's when my sister and I kind of like freaked out; it wasn't what we imagined it was going to be or what we wanted. It was like a TV room with couches and chairs, and everybody was just gathered around and hanging out. The rooms in assisted living and the dining area that we saw were OK. I can't see anything about them; it's just not what we needed for our mother. The memory care was on lock down. The staff member that we met was nice.

I have a friend who is a resident of Lakeland Manor, ALF. The place is clean and neat and the staff is very caring. They are easy to work with. This is not at the high end of ALFs and most of the residents are using social security and medicare to afford to stay here. Most of the residents are sweet people, almost all working class with limited education. This is not to knock the facility or the residents but just something to be considered. My friend is a retired construction worker with a HS education who is uninterested in books but prefers to watch TV most of the day. From what I have observed that is typical of many, but not all of the residents. I have met many of the residents and bought them puzzles, word games and bibles. There are several bible study groups headed by local ministries that are well attended. There is medical help on campus and a doctor visits regularly as well as a monthly visit by a dentist. Flu shots were offered to the residents earlier in the fall.

My dad is in Lakeland Manor for respite care. It doesn't smell like urine, and is very clean and well decorated. The rooms were a little small on one side. They keep men and women separated, and allow them to sleep if they want to sleep. They do not believe in chemical restraint, which is fantastic. The food is fantastic, and the care is above and beyond what other places have. The staff is attentive, helpful, communicate if something goes wrong, and they send the resident to the hospital, if the doctor is not around, and to me that's a good thing.

Tender Loving Care (Lakeland Manor) was asking for too much money. They didn’t agree with the money that I was trying to negotiate with them. The facility was so-so, not the best, and there was only one lady who spoke Spanish in the whole building. My husband would feel more comfortable if he was spoken to in Spanish. The room had everything and a walk-in shower. He would have to share the room with somebody, which I don’t mind. They had a lunch room, but I wasn’t that satisfied.

Tender Loving Care is a beautiful facility, very welcoming and one for my mother. When I toured I felt right at home. The entrance is lovely, clean and there are no odors at all which impressed me. The rooms are larger then any others that I have looked at. The staff was caring and compassionate with all of the residents. It amazed me how they new every residents name and how well cared for each resident was. A great tour, a great place and I know my mother will be happy.

Tender Loving Care was horrible. When I walked in to the facility, my first impression was not good. It had a smell. I do not know what it was, but by the time I finished the tour, I had a headache from it. It was a real turn off. They showed me the two-bedroom apartment, and it was bad. It was not a good place. I would not recommend it to anybody. It looked like a dungeon.

My mother almost moved in here. The staff is very friendly and understands how to make assisted living patients very comfortable and feel cared for, which was much more important to her than fancy high rise with a view and impersonal staff. It is in a dubious part of town and you would probably not be wandering around there at night. They really helped us line up the finances. It is not fancy. My impression was that the residents were not very active and engaged, which sounds silly but if you have been visiting AL facilities, you know what I mean. I think they would provide care and warmth for residents, if you can get over the downness.
