My mom has been in the Life Care Center of New Port Richey for a month now. They are very conscious of COVID. We started out with COVID tests every two days, and then you have to wear protective stuff while you're in there, so I really like that during this pandemic. They make sure that you can still see your loved one, which I think is critical. Everybody I have come across is very helpful and very sweet. She has a nice bed, and her room looks nice and clean. The food seems to be good. Now that she has moved into the normal space and she is out of the COVID-quarantine area (because they quarantined them for three weeks), they have a nice small area where they can eat, and I think it is also their TV room. She seems to like her food. The dietitian called me today and made sure that I know my mom's weight and what kind of food she was eating, so I would say they're good. For someone who needs high-level care, I think it is very good. I don't think it is fancy and over the top, but it seems to be clean, and it is just what the people need there.

Do not let your loved ones be admitted here. My grandma chose to come to this location for her rehab after she broke her ankle due to the location, and I should also mention she was on oxygen 24/7. Huge mistake. They took her for a shower two or three times in the 3 weeks that she was there. And the first time was after a night nurse let her wet the bed while using a bed pan and told her she didn't. It wasn't until the morning nurse came in and saw her sheets were wet and changed them. However, she didn't change them right away, she took the old sheets off, and didn't come back with new ones for at least 6 hours. She was supposed to get a shower that night, but when we came to visit her the next day she STILL hadn't had a shower. Also, from the first day she got there (Tuesday) she had been complaining that her mouth and throat were bothering her to the point where she could hardly eat. She was seen by a Dr there until the following Monday. Even then, she was in the restroom when the "Dr" Fortner showed up and "examined" her through the door?? Sorry, but I can't imagine how thoroughly you can examine a patient you've never met before through a door. Then when my family requested a meeting with her, she told my us "Well if you don't like the care you're getting here, you can go somewhere else." That is the most unprofessional thing I've ever heard a doctor say. We immediately requested a different doctor. For her first follow up appointment with her orthopedic surgeon, she had to be transported to her appointment by the life care facility because we didn't have a vehicle to accommodate her in her wheelchair and she was unable to get into the car on her own at the time. We met her at the appointment where she was dropped off for her 3:00 appointment at 2:45. 3:00 comes and goes and by 3:30 she's already feeling week because she has been in her wheel chair for hours before this and she didn't fare well in it already. So we asked how much longer it would be and they told us another 45 minutes at least because they were running behind. We asked why it would be so long when her appointment was at 3 and the nurse at the desk showed us that her appointment wasn't actually until 3:30. At that point she was running out of oxygen and couldn't wait longer. So whoever wrote down her appointment at the center wrote it wrong, and although I can't say for sure that it was for this reason, it seems like they wrote the wrong time, so that the driver could take her and another resident that had a 245 appointment at the same time. She was unable to be seen that day because her oxygen levels dropped too low for the office to consider seeing her. When the driver came back to get her, we asked why he didn't leave her with a second oxygen tank and he rolled his eyes, and said he did, that he put it on the other patients wheelchair. He claims he told her but she had no memory of that, and she's not forgetful of something that life threatening to her. After this we immediately requested a meeting with the director and nothing was really solved. It seemed like she just said what we wanted to hear but nothing actually changed. My grandma just got more and more sick the longer she stayed at this place and would not recommend this place to anyone. I'm

My wife is in rehab after a bad experience in another facility so I can compare services. In Lifecare, the facility is both attractive and the staff is attentive. The meals are well prepared with alternatives on the menu. The staff members have treated my wife with care and respect. They could answer the patient call quicker but I think they do their best. In all facilities, it behooves the patient to have family members or a friend monitor care. All in all Lifecare is responsive to the needs of patients and residents.

My mom was at Life Care Center four months ago. I thought the level of care was really good. The worse problem was that the doctor released her without talking to me first that she was coming back to my house. My mom had told them that she had 100% care at home and everything, but she didn’t, so it’s like she tricked them. She had put herself in jeopardy. It wasn’t like I didn’t want her home, it is just that she didn’t want to be in the rehab so she told them that she had somebody here and that she would be fine, but then she ended up back in the hospital. The rooms were very nice. I was happy with the room. Atmosphere seemed really good too. There was ice cream social that she was excited about, but I don’t know if there was other stuff.

My mother is receiving care at this facility. The weekend staff is horrible, rude and they gossip behind your back. If a family member isn't there to make them do their job you're loved one will sit in bed all day and not get proper care. The staff will take upwards of 20-30 minutes to respond to the call bell come in ask what you need and say I'll be right back and sometimes come back a half hour later. To many times I have changed my mother because she did not want to continue to lay in her own waste. Unacceptable!! I suppose it is this way because upper management isn't there on the weekends to make sure they are doing their job. The overall facility is a great place, but please please make sure your loved one is properly cared for on the weekends the staff are lazy and are only there for a paycheck. Igave it 3 stars for the cleanliness, therapy care, and weekday staff.

Sick of people not doing their jobs

My mom spent 2 months at Life Care. She had wonderful physical and occupational therapists, however, when it was time to be discharged Becky, supervisor of discharging, failed to notify any family members. She claimed that my mom was of sound mind, but I guess she forgot to read the medical history of dementia. So, within 2 hours of returning home to her ALF, mom fell and ended up in the ER. Had Becky actually informed a family member, she might have gained some insight on the amount of care my mom would be receiving when returning home. She neglected to do that as well as take ownership of making a HUGE error on her part. Sad to say, I can't give LifeCare more than one star. The blame was passed around resulting in a decline in my mother's health.

My husband was a patient for 3 weeks during the month of October. The care and staff was wonderful We both enjoyed the daily dinner in the dinning room. Meals were well balanced and flavorful. We left feeling satisfied until the next meal time. Compliments to the chef!

We're satisfied with Life Care Center. We're satisfied that there are a number of activities and that the staff is friendly and helpful. I am disappointed that the staff-to-patient ratio isn't quite as high as we'd like.

The nurses are top notch. They always listen and try to find solutions to any problem that arises. My friend said that even though they are very busy, they always put him first. It's best to eat in the dining room though because the food sent to the rooms is often cold. It's beautiful and smells great which is a plus. The most important thing is that they put real effort and time into getting people well enough to go home.

I placed my mother in life care center for rehab due to a fall. At age 91, the fall raised her fear level of future falls. The staff, from top to bottom could not have made my mothers experience any better. The facility is spotless and the attention to every detail was apparent. As a point of interest, this is not the rehab the hospital recommended. I pulled from another horrible rehab in favor of Life Care. I have seen and witnessed the other alternatives. Kudos to Life Care Center

I think the staff at Life Care Center of New Port Richey was overworked. The doctors were very nice, but still they don't know how to communicate properly with family members regarding situations. The CNAs were very nice and very helpful, but they gave a lot of the duties that should be done by the nurses to the CNAs. It looks very nice from the outside, but they didn't speak about the situations properly that it put a lot of stress on me and my mother. They left people's specimens like urine samples unattended in the bathroom for lots of times. I wasn't pleased with them at all. The food was decent.
