The Sheridan at Hobe Sound was a beautiful place, indoors and outdoors. It was gorgeous, but all of their meeting rooms were on the first floor. They had a few bedrooms on the first floor. It's a huge place, and it's three stories high. Everything you do, if you're on the third floor, you have to come down an elevator or go up an elevator. The dining room was on the first floor, too.
The rooms were super nice, and the studio was huge. The staff was excellent, very knowledgeable, experienced, and knew what she was talking about. They do not have age in place though, so if my husband were to deteriorate with his disease and get to a point where he's not eligible for assisted living, he has to go somewhere else.
They may have some activity rooms on the second floor, but I didn't see any. If my husband wanted to play chess, he would have to travel down a fairly long hallway to an elevator and then go down to another floor and then travel a hallway to get to a room to play cards or something, and I didn't like that. I'd rather see things spread out on all floors. They have three floors and two of them, I think, are just rooms. I didn't even go up to the third floor.
My mom and I both liked The Sheridan at Hobe Sound. They had a really nice deal going on where the second person could come in and get a free one-bedroom. However, my parents were looking for a little larger unit for the two of them that would allow a little bit more space. Nevertheless, the place was great, and the food was very good. We had lunch there and it was very nice. We saw the activity room. They went over the activities with us that they do there. They had a lot of different things. They had physical therapy and a small gym. We didn't really see anybody participating in any activities when we were there, but they did tell us what was available. We liked the atmosphere. It was very nice. It had a nice outdoor patio area. There is a golf course. We liked the view and the golf course. The furnishings were beautiful. It was very nice. The two-bedroom was nice. That would have been OK, and my parents are still considering that. The staff was very nice. The only problem was the layout. Some of the rooms were just a long way to walk to get to the dining room. All the activities seemed to be located in one area, and the other wing is far away, so people have to be really pretty ambulatory in order to do things like that. They could have thought about the layout a little bit more, but other than that it was good.
The Sheridan at Hobe Sound has assisted living and memory care, and the only difference between the two is there's a set of locked doors you have to go through for the memory care. You can't just wander out of it or walk out the front door. I love the staff. The director of memory care was nice and has been doing this for 30 years. Everybody seems very compassionate and really interested. They're brand new, so it was really clean. They had a little bit of construction going on when we were there, but the rooms were pretty much done for the most part. They have a movie theater, an herb garden outside, and cooking classes for the memory care people. Both sides pretty much looked the same. The memory care was a little homier because they show them how to cook, help out a little bit, and clean the dishes. They have nice screened-in porches and a very nice courtyard with a big fountain.
