Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living was really small. Upon pulling up to the facility, there's like an apartment building next door to it, and then next door to that was like two houses, so normally you can't see it from the main road. The two staff members that I saw were very nice. They've taken us on the tour and shown us one of the private rooms. Dining area was pretty big, but the community area was very small. The place was all dated, but it's under our budget.

My partner and I visited Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living in Seymour. It's a subsidized place and there's an income limitation. I visited it 3 years ago and then again 6 months ago. I only visited it, so I didn't get that much experience with it, but I thought the facility was very nice. It was laid out very nicely, and the people I met there were very friendly. The staff was very friendly too. We had a problem 3 years ago where our income was all right, but it went up. It turned out that our income together was too much and we didn't want to separate.
Their apartments were nice. They were bigger than what we got in our current place and I think they were nicer too. I could see that it looks pretty good but with how maintenance ran if something broke down or anything, I don't know what it would be like.
I think there was a movie they were watching the first time I went. I think the last time we went, there was some kind of program going on, a musical program where they had people in to perform. It was certainly less expensive but it's got an income limit.

Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living was nice. They had activities, crafts, exercise, physical therapy there if you need it, and a beautiful dining room. They had a porch or patio area out back. It's very similar to other places. I liked it. The people seemed interested. When I first applied there they said that small pets would be acceptable, but then they said they're not. The rooms were well laid out and good sized. They had different room sizes, a studio, and a one-bedroom. The cost is based on your income, but it's less expensive than a lot of other places. I would enjoy living there, plus it's closer to the hospital and my doctors.

I was pleased with the fact that Smithfield Gardens Assisted Living was comparable to other places, although it wasn't as nice. It's a government subsidized facility and it's not brand new and shiny, but the rooms were just about the same, except that they have tile rather than carpeting, and my sister who is a nurse saw that as a real positive. The rooms also have a full-size refrigerator rather than a dorm size refrigerator, and the dining room was comparable. The staff seemed very nice. Some of the people who live there spoke to us and said I can be really happy if I came here. They didn't have as much of a menu as the other places, and they didn't have off-site activities, but they did have bus service that came by for people who needed to go to appointments. The place was attractive.

Everything was pretty good at Smithfield Gardens. The people I met were fairly good. Obviously, they had a bunch of activities. I really like that they have a walk-in shower. I would recommend this facility if they could afford it.
