I'm not impressed at all with River Ridge at Avon. It doesn't have that warm and cozy feeling. There's just some vibe I didn't like there. The rooms were small and there was nothing special about it. It just seemed more like a nursing home than assisted living. The staff who gave me the tour was great. The dining area looked nice and clean. I don't know if they could increase the size of their apartments, but maybe a little modernization or updating would be great.

I had an in-person tour of River Ridge at Avon. The staff was very kind and answered all my questions. She asked me more questions about my mom to guide what I needed, so she seemed a little more experienced in that job. She took me around to look at the facility. I saw the dining hall area, and they had a little snack or bar area, depending on the time of day. I felt that the person I toured with seemed to know the seniors, especially in dealing with dementia patients. It seemed like she was more informed about memory care and spoke to me about what our future might hold. I saw a one-bedroom. I came at dinner time, so most people were eating dinner in the dining hall. It is an older building. The staff talked a lot about the layout of the walkway areas and how they had certain things along the wall to make it easier for people who might be a little bit visually impaired. So it seems that their facility focused a lot on the patients' everyday needs.

My mother and I looked at some wonderful facilities over the course of a year in preparation for her move to an assisted living facility with the option of memory care sometime in the future . Assessing the physical plant, that is the condition of the building , layout of the apartments, age of the appliances , etc was the easy part. The more difficult job was to get a feel for what the employees and residents were like who would be seeing and taking care of my mother everyday. Difficult, that is, until we visited River Ridge at Avon. From the moment we walked into the beautiful foyer and met our hostess we could tell things were different here. People were , well, happy! Employees and caregivers made a point of introducing themselves to my mother and took a genuine interest in HER . And that has not changed since day one. My mother, who had always been somewhat of an introvert, has developed friendships with employees and residents alike. If I were to ‘pop in’ pre-COVID, more often than not I would see my mom with a big smile on her face engaged in a conversation with someone . The kindness and compassion displayed by caregivers abounds and I don’t believe that’s something you can teach . You’ve either got those qualities or you don’t. My hat’s off to River Ridge because apparently they’ve figured out a way to identify really wonderful people. Yes of course there are activities and field trips (pre COVID) and all the rest but clearly the most important asset River Ridge has and recognizes is there people . I strongly recommend this facility without reservation .

My loved one is in a studio which is adequate for her needs and her care. In addition, the one bedroom apartment is a very generous space if your loved one would like to spread out a bit more. The River Ridge staff is excellent at communicating and has gone above and beyond to assist to my loved one's needs. Happy Hour at the Bistro is so nice for them to get out and socialize and something my loved one looks forward to each day. Concerts and other activities such as magicians, comedians have been great! All the "themed" parties are very festive and fun. Even during this difficult time with the pandemic, they have tried to "get creative" with activities to keep residents engaged. The hair salon is a wonderful amenity that my loved one takes advantage of. Overall, a very caring and clean environment!

River Ridge at Avon has exceeded our expectations for my Dad. The welcome begins as you drive into the driveway and see the beautiful building and grounds. Everyone at River Ridge is kind, caring and thoughtful. The nursing staff responds quickly to phone calls and e-mails and has excellent follow-through. A Care Plan is developed specific to each resident’s needs. They take care of my Dad like he is their own father. They have varied activities to keep the residents busy and engaged. Even during Covid19, Michelle and her staff developed out-of-the-box activities! Dad likes the food and says that there is always a good selection. All management is available to talk with at any time and their communication with family members through Covid19 has been invaluable. Jaime, the Executive Director, holds monthly zoom meetings for the families of residents to keep us up to date on all that is happening in the community and answer any questions. Most important is the care, kindness and respect that every person on staff shows to the residents; they are truly amazing. Just one example: On Thanksgiving during Covid19 the residents were not able to be with their families, every management staff member, including those who were not scheduled went to the Thanksgiving celebrations so that the residents wouldn’t feel alone. We visited and interviewed many communities and found that River Ridge’s attention to the health and safety of its residents was at the forefront of their care while keeping them active and engaged. If you are considering a community, my family strongly recommends that you visit River Ridge, meet with the staff, walk through, talk to people and see for yourself the caring environment that it is.

Our mother has been living at River Ridge for a year and a half and we have been very pleased with her experience. She had only been there 9 months before covid restrictions were put into place. River Ridge has done an amazing job putting safety measures in place for the residents and staff. As frustrating it is not to be able to see mom when they are in lockdown, the knowledge that they are keeping her safe outweighs the frustration. The staff is very attentive which is so appreciated. Moms medications have been brought to her with no issues. The staff works diligently to try to make things interesting for the residents in this strange time. Mom says the food is good and varied. The building is very well kept. The rooms are very nice and the weekly cleaning is a very nice plus!(as well as laundry!!) It’s easier to reflect on pre-covid as there were many more activities available for the residents, trips to restaurants or museums, the Bistro in the lobby, daily ice cream socials and happy hour, movies etc. Hopefully this will be back sooner rather than later but in the meantime they are doing a great job and working their hardest to make River Ridge a great place to live! They are succeeding!

My mother is a current resident of River Ridge. Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am extremely hard to please but I can genuinely say that I am extremely pleased with our experiences thus far at River Ridge. The staff is amazing, thoughtful and caring. My mother is gluten-free and on her move in day she was greeted with a Welcome Basket full of gluten-free treats that I know the Executive Director went out and bought herself. My mother moved in to River Ridge during Covid so it is hard to say what the activities will be like once Covid is a thing of the past, but I've got to tell you that the daily ice cream delivery to my mom's apartment is an amazing treat! I strongly recommend River Ridge....trust me if it's good enough for my mom (and my high standards) it will be great for your loved one!!!

I want to take this time to thank the Management Team and Staff at River Ridge at Avon.  This pandemic has been hard on all of us, especially the elderly that do not understand what is going on.  RR has done an amazing job caring for my mother. They are providing my mother the loving care that I cannot due to Covid19.  They provided facetime when I could not go into the building so I feel comfortable seeing my mother.  RR is providing as many interactive activities s possible with the residents but staying within the strict guidelines they are required to keep our loved ones safe, healthy and happy. River Ridge has provided great communication throughout the past 9 months, with calls, emails and Benchmark virtual town hall calls, in regards to the health and safety of both residents and staff.     I have the utmost confidence that my mother is in the best place and is getting the best care for her.  Thank you River Ridge at Avon!

I have a family member at RRA and couldn’t be happier with our selection. Very caring, family oriented atmosphere. The building and grounds are impeccably maintained. The selection and quality of meals is phenomenal. The associates are very attentive and willing to do the “little things” to make the residents extra comfortable. The attention to health and safety during the pandemic has been extraordinary. The family culture has truly come out during these past very trying months. Senior management and staff have been phenomenal in their creativity and willingness to deal with ‘unusual’ events and circumstances. I would highly recommend the RRA community to anyone looking for a 5-star facility for a loved one

I am a friend of a resident who lives at this Asst Living. I am there several times a month, on average 12 times a month minimum. The staff is WONDERFUL. The Aides, and cleaning staff are wonderful.as well as the Recreational Staff. The staff turnover is very sad. There has been a Director change in the past year and some staff who are wonderful and caring are leaving due to the changes in Director. Residents see the changes and are saddened about some of these wonderful ppl who care for them leaving there do to questionable honesty with this Director and tense situations there. It was truly a very beautiful place, but changes that have happened there are not good ( in my personal option and three other Family Members of Residents who live there). The dining room seems to be not staffed as it was in the past six months. It’s sad due to the cost of what the Residents pay to live there. There needs to be stability with staffing and needs to be a Director who is honest, not passive aggressive.

River Ridge at Avon was a lovely looking place, but it was outrageously expensive. The staff was lovely. The residents were getting ready for bingo at the time I was there.

I have a friend at River Ridge at Avon. I saw that there were many people admitted there who need more than assisted living. They also have problems with their administration. With their staff, there were some who were excellent and some who were wanting. The rooms and public areas were clean. The food was excellent; however, people with special diets for different medical conditions were not taken into consideration consequently. Their dining room looked kind of institutional.

We have been very happy with River Ridge, a Benchmark Senior Living facility. The staff goes above and beyond. The are caring and attentive, the rooms are always clean and the nursing staff has been so understanding and supportive. I can't say enough positive things about River Ridge. The management's door is always open. I never would have found this place without the help of Caring.com.

River Ridge at Avon was an excellent facility. They just recently remodeled everything, and it's perfect. We've got clients there also. The rooms were a little bit smaller but nicely decorated. The food was very good. The staff were nice and very pleasant. There wasn't anything wrong with them. We did see a lot of nice activities, and the residents were participating.

River Ridge at Avon was beautiful. If I could talk Mom into it, I would love to have her there. They had RNs on staff 24/7. It was a living-to-end assisted living, and you never have to move again. They provide everything. The apartments were nice. They were a good size. The layout was very reasonable and smart. Their dining room and food were outstanding.

River Ridge has a great memory care unit and a high staff to resident ratio. They provide quality care. Mom needed a Hoyer lift, and they allow that. It's a great environment. She's in the memory care unit. The staff is very good. The rooms are nice, modern, and up-to-date. The memory care activities are a little bit different than what you have in traditional assisted living. They have singing, trips to an ice cream parlor, bowling, basketball, and other modified activities. They have entertainment that comes into the building, and they have birthday parties. I like the staff and their willingness to meet my mom's physical needs.

My mom was a resident for 4 years at River Ridge. The facility is beautiful and the staff are caring, compassionate, professional and fun loving people! My mom loved being a resident and made some close friends while there. My brother and I couldn't have asked for a better place for our mom to spend her final years of life. River Ridge definitely provides quality life options for seniors!

It felt like the best fit and was close to our home. My dad is safe here has things to look forward to every day. Has made new friends. The staff is great-it's a 2nd chance at life and I'm not worried every time he doesn't answer the phone.

River Ridge is a very clean facility, and there were always staff present in the hallways and at the nursing stations. My grandmother's room had a large window but limited space for her personal belongings. The food was served hot when appropriate, and my grandmother had a choice for all of her meals each day. She was checked on at least once per hour, and she could easily call for assistance. The family wishes that there were more organized activities for patients with dementia, but given the nature of the placement we were happy with the services.

Facility is acceptable for those who are mobile and have dementia. If you are looking for a place that needs more personal care, it is best to continue to look. High staff turnover related to nursing continues to be a problem. Limited choices in area makes it difficult for those who need assisted living.

My Mom has been a long term resident here. In Jan 09 the entire nursing team left. Since then they have not had a steady nursingstaff on. The place looks good, staff is friendly. Many complaints from the residents. Costs are skyrocketing. If you need almost no assistance (6 hours a week) that is included in your rent. Next jump up is $2,000. add that to $4200 rent and it's staggering. Hard to phone calls returned. Not at all what the brochure is selling. beware.
