I love the home feel of The Reserve at Thousand Oaks. The staff there was wonderful. I would be very comfortable there. The people seemed very nice. As you walk around, there seemed to be just plenty of activities. When we were there, we were able to see people playing scrabble, cards, and playing poker. The staff was very nice, it was very much like being at home. I didn't like the bathroom setup very much. I would be happy if my sister was there. They have very cordial people staying there, people looked up and said hello. The dining area is a very nice, you can go down and eat anytime you want. They have regular hours for food, but you can go down there. They have a little bistro, and you can get food anytime you want. They have a library and an exercise room. I didn't like the layout of the room, that was very confusing to me, where you took a shower. You had to leave your room and go a few feet to the shower. They have religious services every morning of three different denominations.

My friend moved into The Reserve at Thousand Oaks. I like the people that helped me; they were very kind and very helpful. The types of services that they offered seemed to match what I needed. I think it's a bit of a nice place and they're very kind. The staff is caring and patient. I think the food's good. I haven't had a chance to eat it myself, but my friend likes it. They offer plenty of activities, but she chooses not to participate. They have everything you would need. They have a gym, a salon, a whirlpool, and a theater. The Reserve is close to where I live, as well as close to where my friend used to live.

We went to The Reserve at Thousand Oaks yesterday. We wanted to see that one in person. What we liked about it is the size of the campus. My father-in-law is 90 years old and we would consider him pretty independent at this point. He doesn't require all the services but they went in-depth on what some of those are. What we like about it is the way that he had a balcony or a terrace, if you will, that he could open a door to and sit outside. He's not like being closed-in in a room. We also liked seeing the socialization. We met one woman that has only been there for 2 weeks and she seemed quite engaged in some conversation and laughing when Dylan, the one who assisted us, introduced her as their newest resident. I asked her if she came there because she knew people and she said she didn't know anybody. That made me feel comfortable knowing that he's going to go in there probably like the first day of school, a little bit scared and he doesn't know anybody. I think once he opens up and starts socializing, he's going to find it very different. The other thing that we liked was their dining room because it's a restaurant theme. They showed us their menu. My father-in-law doesn't eat at home so I think he's going to like that a lot. That will also provide more socialization. They had daily specials, maybe they change that every 2 days. They also have a seasonal menu where they can order whatever they want. If they want to order pancakes morning, noon, and night, they can do that. We toured the gym where they offer physical therapy if you would like to have one on one. They have a library of books and we saw people here and there sitting and reading. Dylan took us down to the theater so they have movie nights. One thing that just dawned on me in the room that we liked was they have a button for check-in. They have to hit that button before 10:00 a.m. and they have to hit that button around 5:00, 6:00 p.m. when they get back to their room. If they don't hit that button, then they go and check on them. They keep tabs on them and they've got, as I call it, a command center. They're right on top of where their residents are. We asked about emergencies and how they evacuate everybody. He told us that they now have a contract with a charter bus company, that they will get everybody out immediately, and that they have drills since that fire up at the Reagan Library. It was after that that they put a lot of thought and created some protocols on how to get the residents out of there. They also have independent living and you can tell that they're independent based on the apartments. They've got their vehicles at their apartment and all that. My father-in-law will be in their assisted living. They do not provide memory care, so if at some point, he would require that, we would possibly have to move him. Everybody was very, very attentive to their residents, very caring, and very personalized. We watched a whole group coming into the restaurant when we were leaving because it was dinnertime, and they were calling them all by name, helping them to the table, and just very caring.

My dad lived in The Reserve at Thousand Oaks for a short time. He was there for a month. They weren't really understanding of his needs. The day-to-day staff was great, but the management was more trouble. Food was really good. They had a lot of activities, but he hadn't participated. The facility was clean, but it was showing signs of aging like it was getting older. It's more secluded too.

My mom is a resident of The Reserve at Thousand Oaks. She's been in their assisted living since November 2012. MBK Senior Living purchased it. It's been a little while, but I wasn't familiar with what they've added (like these MedTechs, CNAs, and the new levels of service). I wasn't familiar with what that entailed; it turns out they could actually meet my mom's needs. Before I knew they just did medication management, but I wasn't sure what else they could do. We initially thought of moving her out. There's a lot of amenities. They have a swimming pool. They have activities, and they have exercise classes. They have an in-house PT and OT. They don't have Medicare aide stuff or home health stuff, but they have it if you're a resident. They have transportation every day instead of just certain days. They'll even drive them to church on Sundays. They have a pretty good restaurant. You could just pay at the front desk and eat there. It was really good quality food too.

I just heard about The Reserve at Thousand Oaks. We live in the community so I had seen where it was located. What I like best about it is that it sits on 10 acres of land; it's very nice. It's great for people who want more independent living and also people who need more care. The main facility has a lot of apartments and outside were like little condos that are away from the main facility. I like that, and I thought that would be nice for my husband. It's very clean, with beautiful grounds, beautiful patios, and lots of amenities. They have physical therapy, a beautiful pool, and a big game room. They have just everything you could want to have. They have a nice restaurant where they can order whatever they want to eat. If they don't want the main dish that's being served that day, they can have whatever they want. A lot of good socialization and activities were going on too. The staff was just super friendly and very welcoming. The staff who took us on a tour was really, really nice, knew a lot about the facility, was very helpful, and accommodating. I didn't try the food, but there were a lot of people there eating. The food looked good. There were even fresh berries and fresh fruit. I also saw the menu. The facility was just beautiful, it's almost like being in a forest. There are beautiful trees around like pine trees and oak trees. Several residents came and talked to me about how it's a great place and how they really enjoy it there. They seemed very happy.

The Reserve at Thousand Oaks does not have 24/7 nursing care, they had medical technicians, so there was a lesser level of care, but I felt it was very comprehensive. It's more country and hills, I liked the location, the staff was wonderful, the services they provided were very, very good, and if my mother had not elected to live in Santa Ana, that's where I would have gone.

Wonderful staff and decent apartments. Dreary colors though, dark hallways, a 1980s vibe. Ever since new ownership by a large corporation, pinching pennies trumps service and the place has gone downhill. Food is mediocre and dinner service routinely takes more than 1.5 hours. They recently added assisted livng services, which are spotty. Maid service is poor to mediocre. Car service can leave residents waiting for up to an hour to be picked up from errands. Medical assistance is marginal. It's one of the more affordable options in the area, but you get what you pay for.

The Reserve at Thousand Oaks was very professional and had a nice offering. The rooms were very nice and most of them were one-bedroom. The dining room and entertainment room were very nice. As I recall, they had several dishes, and you could order off of a menu.
