The young lady that toured us around Sunrise of Monterey was very informative and very personable. The facility was very nice, attractive and very large. It had three different areas, the assisted, the mid level where people with some memory issues and who need extra assistance go, and full memory care facility. The dining room was quite nice, comfortably set, and very attractive. The physical appearance was pretty good, but I wasn't crazy about the rooms because they didn't have a whole lot of amenities to them.

Sunrise of Monterey was a very nice and beautiful facility. The only issue is it's fairly small, so there's limited activities. It also does not have skilled nursing or an independent living mix that some of the others do. It's strictly assisted living. The staff member who showed me around was well qualified and very helpful. The dining area was very nice.

Sunrise is excellent and has a friendly atmosphere. The people are wonderful, caring, cooperative, and knew my dad by name after one day. The place itself is immaculate and clean. My dad participates in movie nights and card games. The dining area is large, and the food is a 7, but the diversity of choice is a 10. There are many people involved in his care.

We saw Sunrise of Monterey. That’s the one that we’re trying to get my husband in. It’s the best fit for his needs. It’s exceptional. It’s beautiful. It’s clean and it smells good. They have all kinds of programs. They have excursions. They have their own special care manager and their own special care management plans for every resident in their memory care unit. It’s secure. It is on the bottom floor, so residents can go inside and outside. They can do gardening if they want to.

I thought Sunrise Monterey was exceptional. It's a fairly small community with only 52 to 56 residents. The facility is centrally located in Monterey, and some rooms actually had a bay view. It's very convenient for shopping, hospitals, and the VA clinics, which meets all of the necessary criteria that I wanted for my father. It's all connected, and you don't have to walk out of one building to get into another. It's two levels with elevators located in convenient positions. The dining room is next to what they call a bistro, the common area, and eating facilities which are all almost communal in the way they're situated.

Sunrise of Monterey was nice and clean. The residents are receiving excellent care and are placed in different sections for different levels of care. They seemed to have a lot of activities going on while I was there. Plus, they go out on field trips. What impressed me most was the cohesiveness of the entire community.

Sunrise of Monterey is beautiful, new and updated. But it was way too formal. The rooms were nice and the people were nice too.

Sunrise of Monterey was nice and clean. Every employee that I came across was very nice; everybody went out of their ways to get you a cup of coffee and a cookie. They wanted us to eat, but we just had lunch before arriving. She said that when there was something going on in the area and you wanted to go, they had a bus that would take you. The staff was very friendly, answered questions, and showed us things. The apartments were clean, and I liked the fact that you furnish it with your own furniture; that way, you have part of home with you. The dining room was nice and clean, and everybody who was in there seemed happy.

Sunrise provides my mom with compassionate, sensitive, loving and professional care in their Terrace level of assisted living. New, well-maintained facility, superb staff, best institutional food mom has ever had (home made soups!). Totally supportive, welcoming, completely transparent administration. My mother and I both are completely satisfied and grateful that she's in their loving care. I can't say enough about my satisfaction with Sunrise of Monterey. Mom has been there for almost a year now and she is comfortable, safe and happy.

The reason my wife didn't want to go there is because it is a small community. Sunrise of Monterey only has 53 guests. My wife thinks the number is too constraining, and she would not be able to develop any relationships. We were pretty impressed by it in the sense that it was very large. It was like a 5-star hotel. But there were just not enough people in there. The staff was very friendly.

The staff in sunrise is sales focused, not service focused. The rooms are small, and the service is poor. The food is average and nothing exceptional. The dining room is carpeted and well-decorated. I think most residents have memory problems and probably really didn’t know where they were. They need a higher staffing level to take care of the residents.

There were no rooms at Sunrise for me to see. They were full. It was really nice. It was clean, maintained, and it looked like a home. You can see the dining area on one side. All of the staff was very nice, very accommodating. They had a schedule of activities. There were some people in a common area who were playing some games. I love the grounds. They were very clean, none of that stinky odor you get when you're in those places.

Sunrise was a lovely facility, friendly staff, clean place and I would place my husband there. It wasn't gloomy and it was bright and alive. Based upon what I've read and the locations of the others, it would suit my needs perfectly.

When it became apparent that my husband needed more specialized care than I was able to give him at home, I began what was a stressful and demanding search for an alternative. I won’t detail the many steps which led me to Sunrise of Monterey, but it was a careful and detailed process. I was first struck by the beauty of the place – elegant, tasteful, almost resort-like. My husband was a man who appreciated those things and I wanted him to live within that lovely ambiance. Next I was impressed by the supervisorial expertise. The managers I dealt with were professional, involved, responsive. But of course the most important element of all for me was the quality of the caregivers. My husband is mentally and physically helpless – completely vulnerable. I wanted him treated with loving kindness, patience and respect by well-trained compassionate people. I have not been disappointed, and this is a gift beyond price. The intelligent friendly kindness exhibited by the Sunrise staff at all levels has made a very painful situation much easier for myself and my family, and for this we are deeply appreciative.

I came to Sunrise as a respite after surgery. My residence was beautiful and comfortable. The care managers were amazing! I had to constantly have help getting in and out of bed and their response was always prompt. They were cheerful, friendly and always asking me what else I might need to be more comfortable. The food was very good and I always had choices and could get something not on the menu if I wanted. I had a very positive experience and I highly recommend them.
