I went to Oakmont of Camarillo. Everything was very, very nice. They take them on field trips, and it's like all three of them that I have seen are pretty much all the same. It's going to come down to money and it's going to come down to where my children feel comfortable with. The staff is good. They were all very nice. We've been there three years, and two years ago because we have money down on the place, so we kept going to all of their activities and things thinking that we were going to be there. We went to some of their dinners and we heard a speaker once. It was very luxurious.

If you’re looking for a retirement facility that is hotel-like, with upscale common areas, above average food, lots of activities, and you are independent, then Oakmont of Camarillo is for you. If you need assistance, think twice. When we moved dad into the assisted living side of the facility (they also have a memory care wing) in March of 2021 we were assured of getting additional services like assistance with toileting, escorts/reminders to go to meals, etc. We paid the additional fees for these but staffing fell short and he got maybe half of what we requested. The entire management team (both administration and medical) left the facility in Summer and were replaced with interim staff, and then finally permanent replacements recently, but by then you could notice serious gaps in service like caregivers, housekeeping, etc. We moved dad out this week to a memory care facility that could better care for his needs; his dementia had worsened, and we were so disappointed in staffing and lack of communication from administration that we didn’t choose Oakmont’s memory care wing, rather another community entirely. During the last week there we had asked for showering assistance for him, but after waiting 4 days for them to do it, and it never happening, we gave up and just waited until he got to his new community. There also was an electrical issue in his room for the last two weeks he lived there: half of it was without power, so the ceiling light, kitchenette light and two nightstand lamps were not working. We had asked several times to fix this so he would not trip in the darkness; two “maintenance” people did come to look at the problem but could never figure out what was wrong and it was never fixed while he was living there. Our lesson here has been: when looking at facilities, don’t be swayed by aesthetics like fancy furniture, vaulted ceilings and fireplaces; the care is more important and it’s a good thing to see lots of caregiver staff roaming around.

Oakmont of Camarillo had spectacular grounds and big rooms. I liked them so much, but it was quite expensive. The person who toured us was wonderful and answered all our questions. It's an older facility but it's kept up, and it looked magnificent.

My dad is now at Oakmont of Camarillo. It's lovely and it's brand new. Everything has been top-rated. It has been very good. The food is excellent and there are all kinds of activities. There's exercise classes, games, and field trips. They have been on lockdown. My dad hadn't really gotten too settled before the lockdown, but his apartment is lovely and brand new. Because it is his own furniture, it feels like home. Everybody has been very good.
