I went to Good Samaritan Retirement Center. That was one of my top choices, but the price was out of my budget. It was absolutely beautiful, very quiet, very tranquil, and when I first walked in they had a kind of jazz music; it was soothing. It looked like they offered some great activities, and had the price been lower, I probably would have done that for my mom, but they do require that the person's ambulatory, so anybody in a wheelchair depending on severity might not have access to it. The staff was great too.

Donald was at Good Samaritan for only 3 or 4 days. The facility is very neat, very clean, exceptionally well-organized and thought about, and had very concerned, very caring people. Some of the places we went to had an odor, whether bad or good. Like in some places you could smell disinfectant all over the place, while in others you can smell not so clean or not so good smells. But at the Good Samaritan, it was a very neutral smell -- very clean, fresh-air type of smell. So we were very pleased with the facility as we could see it. But he was only there 3 or 4 days before he was rushed to the hospital. They had constant entertainment. In fact, the day that Donald moved in, they had a very accomplished pianist come in and play the piano because one of the people who lived there, her son had donated a beautiful baby grand piano. The next day, they had singers that brought in their own voice over recordings, and they had little skit people. So they have various activities there, plus they have a nice chapel, and they have mass every day because it is a Chaldean facility. There is a community room on each side of the wing, on the first and second floors of the building, and you can reserve that room say if your family comes and they want to have a birthday party for you. They also have free movies and free socials like ice-cream socials. They have so many postings every month for activities. It really is a wonderful place -- beautiful scenery and everything else. I would highly recommend it.   He has 520 sq. ft. of living space at Good Samaritan. He’s got 2 huge walk-in closets, a balcony that he could sit out that overlooks the meditation gardens, and a private bath. And the nicest thing was that each room has its own controlled heating and cooling. I felt that this place was an excellent choice. They had it all beautifully furnished except for television, but he was allowed to bring his own furniture if he didn’t want theirs, which he did. It had a complete kitchen facility; you could bring in a microwave and a coffee pot, but they didn’t allow electric skillets or anything like that. They also had a refrigerator in there. It was like having your own apartment.

Good Samaritan is wonderful. It's kind of small, but they take very good care of my loved one, and they're very dedicated to what they're doing. Their style is very straightforward, nothing fancy. The grounds are beautiful. I am very happy with it.

I found Good Samaritan for my mom. We chose it because it is an organization that is run by Catholic nuns. The facility is very clean. The staff is very efficient. There is a nursing team on hand. All the attendees seem pleasant and in good care. The food is decent and prepared with the special needs of the people in mind. Also we chose this facility for the budget for my mother to be there. It is perfect. She really likes it. There are activities to keep the people's minds and senses alert. Regarding accommodations, there are some rooms that have two people and some that have one. My mom is in a unit for one person. There is a half refrigerator and a small sink. She has also a full bathroom. There is a little balcony with a sliding glass door and a little table and two chairs there. They provided all the furniture and all the bedding. They also do laundry. There is an alert system that she wears on her neck and also an alert system in the bathroom.
