Magnolia of Millbrae was a large community. It's like one full block. It was spacious but was a little bit too large for my mother. I didn't think she could kind of navigate the area. The staff and everybody were very nice though. We had lunch there and it was excellent. The facility was clean, spacious, and beautiful. It's updated.

All of the amenities mentioned by others are there. But. The cost went up dramatically in past year and they are about to do another round of increases. The issue: The cost of living on SF Peninsula is out of control. The low pay caretakers needed at these facilities can't afford to live there. These facilities are all competing for the same dwindling number of employees and therefore must keep raising salaries and/or cutting caretaker quality and response. Cost for my relative has gone from 6500/mo to 8500 in two years and going up again. This is particularly true for those needing daily assistance.

Magnolia of Millbrae was very nice and left me with a positive impression. The rooms were fairly spacious. There was a very nice dining area with a good menu and good chef. The people were very nice.

Magnolia of Millbrae is magnificent. The rooms are all 1-bedroom and 2-bedrooms, and they have no fancy studios. Every room has a full kitchen, a refrigerator, a stove, and a microwave. The rooms are luxurious, and the furniture in the hallways and entryway is almost the best you could get from the 1950s and 60s. The least expensive room is $5700, but they have a point system.

My mother likes Magnolia of Millbrae. She is meeting people and she seems to be settling in to the living arrangement and making friends. They do have activities and she is participating in some of them. She is starting to go to the morning exercise classes that they have, which is a good thing. They would take her if she has an appointment, but it has to be scheduled in advance.

I visited Magnolia of Millbrae for my parents. It seemed nice. The rooms were fine; they were nice. Amenities seemed reasonable, too. The staff was accommodating.

I think Magnolia of Millbrae is very nice. The staff is very helpful. It’s a pleasant environment and very clean; it’s been a positive experience. My sister has a one-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, full bath, washer and dryer, bedroom, and living room. It seems like a good place.
Based on observation, the people here seem to be pretty happy. They have a lot of activities for them, especially on holidays. The food is excellent, which is one of the reasons I picked this place.

The one in California that I was looking at was The Magnolia of Millbrae. It was a very nice warm place. It was very expensive, and it might be a little too dressy for me, but I do like the location. It was in walking distance to the buses, and it was fairly close to my daughter. The disadvantage of it was, I was going from a five-bedroom home down to a one or two-bedroom facility, which was hard. However, the rooms were nicely and tastefully done. It had a nice small kitchen, an eating area and a nice living room. One bedroom was a fairly good size bedroom with a walk-in closet. I thought the friendliness of the staff stood out to me. I looked at several places, but Magnolia was the only one that fitted my particular needs and I like the Bay area.

It was mostly a case of availability why we chose The Magnolia of Millbrae and, of course, it is probably the top facility in the whole area. It has the most amenities, and it's got very high ratings for food. We probably looked at six or seven different facilities in the area, and it definitely had the largest single bedroom and they had one available at the right time that we were moving them. Also, the fact that they didn't have to move when they got reclassified as assisted living. That was a major point against our other choice, but they would have had to move again and this one move just about killed them. They have only been there three weeks today, and they have no complaints. My aunt is extremely happy and my uncle a little less so, but he's got a lot of health problems. The staff is great and the food, they are absolutely over the moon about it.

Magnolia of Millbrae facility was gorgeous. It was just like a hotel though very expensive. However, it wouldn't have applied to my mother's situation because she ended up needing hospice care and they don't have that kind of service there.

The Magnolia was far too expensive. It's okay for people who have a lot of money. But I couldn't afford it. So I don't consider it as a place I would go to eventually. I talked a little bit with their marketing director and looked at their apartments. She was very pleasant and answered all our questions. Magnolia is a nice place. They have good food, nice facilities, and the apartments are adequate. I had no complaints. It's just that when I found out what it cost, I said that's not for me.

My great grandfather spent the last year of his life living in Magnolia and he absolutely loved it. It is such a wonderful facility, filled with caring staff and lively residents. They offer a variety of fun activities for residents including in-house movie nights, trips to museums and ballgames. Their dining room is the center of the social scene. Their staff cared so well for my great grandfather during his last few months and a few of them even showed up at his funeral when he passed away.

My mother was a 3-1/2 year resident of The Magnolia. Thier staff was caring and very efficient in their daily tasks. The facility is something out of a Home and Garden Magazine. It has a pool, a beauty shop and even a candy shop!
Every year at Christmas time, the facility's owner throws a huge over the top party for the residents and thier friends and family. The food is magnificent and is there in abundance. The residents get all dressed up in their finest Christmas garb and kick the holiday's off in style.
The apartments are available in 1or 2 bedrooms and each has a dishwasher and washer and dryer. The bathrooms are set up for the ease in bathing and in entering and exiting. All thought is given to the residets. The facility also has buses that can transport the resident to downtown Millbrae for shopping or to a doctor's appointment.
Millbrae is a darling small community south of San Francisco. The weather is very agreeable and the friendliness of a small town is very apparent.

I'm very familiar with Magnolia of Millbrae, which offers both independent living and assisted living. I've had several clients there. MofM's strong suits are residents who are ambulatory"”those who can get around either on their own or with help and don't have cognitive issues. They don't have a dementia waiver here, but they help residents who develop memory problems make the transition to another facility that offers dementia care.
It's located around the bend from downtown Millbrae, so it's close to all the shops and restaurants that Millbrae has to offer. And it's very pleasant. All the common areas are on the first floor. It feels open and welcoming. And there's an indoor pool with glass walls; that's unusual and a nice plus.
One of the best things about Magnolia of Millbrae is the management team. It's family owned, and they work hard to accommodate residents. They're problem solvers, intensely focused. I've seen them deal with some very difficult situations involving my clients, and they've handled them quite well. The staff, too, is good, skilled"”well supported by the management team.
I've heard mixed reports from clients about the food. Some like it. Some don't.

Luxury was our overwhelming impression when we visited Magnolia of Millbrae to scope out possible new homes for Mom and Mom-in-law. Everything seemed top-notch, from the services to the residences themselves. Apartments are spacious and include a washer and dryer, a rarity in senior communities. Assisted living services are available in a variety of packages, so you don't pay for more than you need.
As far as the common areas -- wow! Lovely library and lounge areas, including one with a live pianist for cocktail hour! Very nice dining rooms, a full gym, year-round pool, sweet shop, nicely kept grounds with lots of shady areas for sitting. There's an on-site wellness director doing health screenings and preventative care and so many activities (recreational, social, educational, etc.) a teemager couldn't keep up with half of them.
About the only negative I can think of was the price -- steep -- but you very obviously get what you pay for.

This is a fabulous place. We enjoyed visiting for the 10 years that our parents lived there. The dining room is as nice as most restaurants and they will accommodate private parties in a side room. However, being a rental, they can evict people that they think are too much trouble -- even when we were willing and able to pay for private extra nursing service, we had to move Mom to another facility that is not as nice.
